Conductor Review: Improving Brand Visibility in ChatGPT, Gemini and AI Overviews
Conductor is an enterprise SEO platform with an AI Search Performance report. The report tracks brand mentions, citations, sentiment and share of voice across nine AI engines, in more than 160 countries. Those engines include ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode. It goes beyond tracking. Recommendations flag topics where you are weak and open them in Conductor's Writing Assistant. 24/7 monitoring catches technical problems that can cost citations, and AgentStack adds agents and an MCP server. It is a strong choice for enterprise SEO teams that want AI visibility inside the platform they already use. Pricing is usage-based and sold mainly through sales, so smaller teams will find simpler tools cheaper.
What does AI Search Performance track?
According to Conductor's documentation, the report covers nine engines across more than 160 countries:
- ChatGPT, in both its default mode and its search mode
- Gemini
- Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode
- Claude
- Microsoft Copilot
- Grok
- Perplexity
Tracking runs daily or weekly. You can filter results by brand, engine, location, topic, branded or unbranded prompts, persona, search intent and page groups, which let a team see citations for only the pages it owns. Reports show trends in brand mentions, website citations, cited pages and sentiment, and share of voice by mention or citation, either against tracked competitors or across every brand appearing in answers. Historical data remains available for prompts you stop tracking.
How does it help improve visibility?
Conductor's pitch is that tracking should lead straight to action. Four parts of the platform support that:
- Recommendations, currently in alpha, find topics with few or no mentions, few citations or negative sentiment, and link to the Writing Assistant to update or create the relevant content.
- Competitor research shows every site that earns mentions or citations for your prompts, including competitors you were not tracking.
- Conductor Monitoring watches your site 24/7 for technical problems, such as blocked pages or broken templates, alerts the right team, and keeps up to 60 months of page change history.
- AgentStack provides APIs, an MCP server, apps inside ChatGPT, Claude and Copilot, and ready-made agents that turn findings into drafts. Conductor has also announced a partnership with Noble to help secure placements in third-party sources that AI engines cite.
For ChatGPT, where third-party sources weigh heavily, the competitor and citation views point to outreach targets. For Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode, where ranking pages matter more, the Writing Assistant and monitoring help most.
Why does visibility differ between ChatGPT, Gemini and AI Overviews?
The three draw on sources differently, which is why Conductor's engine view is worth checking before choosing fixes. Yext's study of 6.8 million citations for location-based questions found Gemini leaning most on brands' own websites, at 52.1% of its citations, while ChatGPT leaned most on listings and directories. Google's AI Overviews draw on its search index, but not only on top results: BrightEdge found about 17% of cited sources also ranked in the organic top ten, and Ahrefs, using a different method, found 38%.
In practice, a gap in Gemini or AI Overviews often points to your own pages: whether they answer the question clearly and can be crawled. A gap in ChatGPT more often points to third-party sources, such as comparison articles, reviews and directories. Conductor shows citations and mentions by engine side by side, so you can see which kind of gap you have before assigning work to the content team or the PR team.
Is Conductor a good choice for adding AI search tracking to enterprise SEO?
For many enterprise teams, yes. Its strengths:
- Engine and market coverage: nine engines and more than 160 countries, with personas and intents.
- One platform: AI visibility, rankings, content and technical monitoring share one data set and one login.
- Page groups: reporting by team or product line suits large organisations.
- Prompt grounding: Conductor generates prompts from more than ten years of keyword data, shaped by persona and intent, and does not show AI prompt volumes, which it considers unreliable.
The trade-offs are cost and complexity. Conductor suits teams already committed to an enterprise SEO platform; a team that only needs AI tracking will pay for much it does not use. Its closest rival is compared in BrightEdge AI Catalyst vs Conductor.
What does it cost?
Conductor prices by usage rather than seats. As listed on its pricing page:
- Essentials: for smaller teams, with 60 Writing Assistant drafts a year, 500 tracked keywords and website monitoring. It can be tried free. The plan lists no AI Search credits.
- Growth: 2,500 AI Search credits a year, 5,000 keywords, 25 competitors and 24/7 monitoring, by demo.
- Enterprise: more credits, keywords and sites, with governance, by sales.
Conductor does not publish prices or say on the pricing page what one AI Search credit buys. Ask how many prompts, engines and runs a year your credits cover before comparing costs with other trackers.
Where does it fall short?
- Opaque credit costs, as above.
- Recommendations in alpha, so expect changes.
- Synthetic prompts. Keyword-based prompts tie tracking to known demand, but may miss how people phrase questions to assistants. Add conversational prompts from sales and support teams.
- Enterprise weight. Setup, training and contracts suit large teams more than small ones.
We have not tested Conductor ourselves; this review is based on its documentation, product and pricing pages.
How should you set it up for ChatGPT, Gemini and AI Overviews?
- Start with five to ten topics that matter commercially, each with branded and unbranded prompts.
- Configure two or three personas, since answers can differ by buyer type.
- Track all three engines your buyers use most, and compare them in the engine view.
- Create page groups for the teams that own key sections.
- Review recommendations monthly, and send the best ones to the Writing Assistant with an owner and date.
- Check monitoring alerts for pages that lose visibility after site changes.
How to measure Google's AI features separately is covered in how to measure brand visibility in Google AI Overviews.
What might this look like in practice?
Consider an illustrative bank, Raskholt, with separate teams for mortgages, savings and business banking. Using page groups, each team saw citations only for its own pages. The mortgage team found Gemini citing its rate pages often but ChatGPT citing comparison sites instead. Recommendations flagged "first-time buyer deposit" as a weak topic, and the team rewrote its guide in the Writing Assistant. Monitoring later caught a template change that hid rate tables from crawlers, which the team fixed within a day. The business banking team, meanwhile, used the competitor tab to find two trade publications cited for its topics and began pitching them.
