Does Clearscope Help Improve Visibility in AI Answers?

Partly. Clearscope is a content optimisation tool that has added AI search features. Query Discovery finds the questions people ask across Google and AI assistants. Query Tracking shows when ChatGPT and Gemini mention your brand and when competitors are recommended instead. Fan-out data shows the web searches AI platforms run to build their answers. Its core strength, content reports and real-time grading, helps pages cover a topic thoroughly, which supports being retrieved. But no public evidence ties a higher Clearscope grade to more AI citations. Plans start at $129 a month with 50 tracked queries. It suits content teams that want AI tracking beside their writing workflow, not teams needing deep citation analysis.

Clearscope review: generating prompts and analyzing Gemini and GPT searches

Clearscope's AI features start with finding what to track. Query Discovery takes a topic or a website and surfaces the queries that, according to Clearscope, generate traffic and attention across Google, Gemini, GPT and Claude. That gives a starting list of prompts grounded in real demand rather than guesses.

Query Tracking then monitors chosen queries in AI answers. Clearscope's pricing page describes tracking across ChatGPT and Gemini, showing when and how your brand is mentioned and how that changes as answers evolve. Its home page also mentions Claude, so confirm which engines your plan includes.

The fan-out feature is the most useful for content work. AI assistants break a question into several web searches before answering. Seeing those searches tells you which sub-questions a page needs to answer to be retrieved. Ahrefs's study of 1.4 million ChatGPT prompts found cited pages had titles closer to these fan-out queries than pages ChatGPT ignored, as covered in what Ahrefs's ChatGPT citation study found.

Before buying, ask in a demo how often tracked queries run, how many runs are taken per query, whether cited URLs are shown alongside mentions, and whether answers come from the consumer apps or from APIs.

Does content grading help pages appear in AI answers?

Indirectly, at best. Clearscope's grade reflects coverage of the terms, questions and depth found in top-ranking pages. Covering a topic thoroughly helps a page match more of the searches an assistant runs, which is useful. But three points argue against chasing the grade:

  • No public evidence links grades to AI citations. We know of no study, from Clearscope or anyone else, showing that higher grades lead to more citations in AI answers.
  • Google says AI search needs no special writing. Its guide to generative AI features says AI systems understand synonyms and general meaning, so you do not need every variation of a phrase.
  • Stuffing can backfire. In the Princeton and IIT Delhi GEO study, keyword stuffing lowered a source's visibility in generated answers, as described in what the Princeton GEO research shows.

Use the report as a checklist for missing subtopics, not a score to maximise. Original information, such as first-hand data or examples, matters more than term coverage, as covered in how information gain improves AI search visibility.

How much does Clearscope cost?

Essentials Business Enterprise
Price $129/month $399/month Custom
Tracked queries 50 300 Custom
Pages 50 300 Custom
Topic Explorations 20 a month 50 a month Custom
Drafts 20 a month 20 a month Custom
Extras Unlimited users Dedicated account manager SSO, crawler whitelisting, custom agreements

All plans include unlimited users and projects, and monthly plans have no minimum contract. Extra pages are sold as add-ons. For a team that already uses Clearscope to write, the tracking comes bundled. For a team that only wants AI tracking, 50 queries for $129 is expensive compared with dedicated trackers such as OtterlyAI, which start lower and cover more engines.

Where does Clearscope fall short for AI visibility?

  • Limited engines. Tracking covers ChatGPT and Gemini per the pricing page, fewer than many dedicated trackers.
  • Little off-site help. AI answers draw heavily on third-party pages, such as reviews, lists and directories. Clearscope's strength is your own content.
  • Grade-chasing. A high grade can produce pages that read like checklists, which helps neither readers nor assistants.
  • Price for small sites. At $129 a month, solo operators may get more from a free content check plus a low-cost tracker.

We have not used Clearscope ourselves; this assessment is based on its pricing and product pages, and a published third-party review.

Who is Clearscope a good fit for?

  • Good fit: in-house content teams and agencies that publish several pieces a month, already brief and grade content in Clearscope, and want AI tracking for their main topics without buying another tool.
  • Reasonable fit: teams refreshing a large library, where Content Inventory and fan-out data together show which older pages to update for AI questions.
  • Poor fit: businesses whose main need is AI visibility reporting across many engines, or whose AI gaps come from third-party sources such as reviews and directories rather than their own pages.

A useful test before subscribing is to take ten queries you already check by hand in ChatGPT and Gemini. Track them for two weeks during a trial, and compare what Clearscope records with your own runs.

How should you use Clearscope for AI visibility?

  1. Build the query list with Query Discovery, then trim it to the questions buyers actually ask.
  2. Track those queries and note where competitors are named instead of you.
  3. Read the fan-out searches for queries you are missing, and list the sub-questions your page does not answer.
  4. Update the page to answer them directly, using the content report to catch missing subtopics.
  5. Add what others lack, such as your own data, pricing detail or examples.
  6. Refresh decaying pages flagged in Content Inventory.
  7. Recheck tracking over several weeks, since single answers vary.

What might this look like in practice?

Consider an illustrative HR software company, Fenwstead, tracking 50 queries on Clearscope's Essentials plan. ChatGPT named two rivals, but not Fenwstead, for "best shift scheduling software for restaurants". The fan-out searches included "shift swap app for restaurant staff" and "scheduling software with tip pooling". Fenwstead's page mentioned neither, although the product supported both. The team added sections on shift swaps and tip pooling, with a short case example from a customer, and kept the content grade at a B+ rather than adding filler terms. Over the next six weeks, Fenwstead appeared in some ChatGPT answers for the query and in more Gemini answers.
