How Do I Report an Inaccurate Perplexity Answer About My Business?

To report an inaccurate Perplexity answer about your business, use the report option under the answer, or open a ticket through Perplexity's support site. The report option is the flag icon or the menu below the response. Include a link to the thread, the exact wrong statement, the correct information and a public source that proves it. Reporting helps, but it is rarely the whole fix. Perplexity builds each answer from the sources it cites, so the lasting fix is to open those sources and correct whichever one carries the error. That may be your own page, a directory, a review site or an old article. For personal information, defamation or copied content, use Perplexity's privacy, legal or copyright routes as well.

How do you report the answer?

  1. Open the answer in Perplexity and make sure it is the version with the error.
  2. Use the report option below the response. Perplexity's help centre describes a flag icon below the answer, and a menu below the response with a Report option.
  3. Or open a support ticket through Perplexity's support site, which is better for detailed or repeated errors.
  4. Share the thread link in your ticket, so the team can see exactly what was said.
  5. Keep a copy of the answer and your report, with the date.

Perplexity's help centre asks for the link to the query and a description of the error. Adding the correct information and a source makes a report much easier to act on.

What should the report include?

  • The thread link.
  • The exact wrong statement, quoted.
  • The correct information, in one sentence.
  • A public source that proves it, such as your website, an official register or a licence lookup.
  • The cited source that carries the error, if you have found it.
  • Who you are: "I am the owner of [business]."

For example: "Thread: [link]. The answer says [business] closed in 2025. We are open at [address], as shown on our website [link] and Business Profile [link]. The cited source, [directory URL], lists our old address. I am the owner."

Why is reporting alone often not enough?

Because Perplexity searches the web and writes each answer from what it finds. If the source it relies on still carries the error, the next answer can repeat it. Perplexity keeps its own index of pages built by its crawler, so pages that have changed may still be cited in their old form until they are recrawled. Why deleted or corrected pages linger is covered in why Perplexity still cites pages or reviews that were deleted or corrected.

How do you trace and fix the source?

Open every source cited in the inaccurate answer and find the sentence that carries the error:

Source type Fix
Your own page Correct it, in plain text, near the top
A directory or listing Update your listing, or ask the site to correct it
A review site Respond to the review, or report it if it breaks the site's rules
A news or blog article Send the publisher a correction request with evidence
A copy of your content on another site Ask for removal; use copyright routes if needed
No source supports the claim Report the answer; make sure your own pages state the correct fact clearly

If Perplexity is not using your pages at all, the problem may be that it finds them but leaves them out, which is covered in how to check whether Perplexity found your page but excluded it. Also check that your site allows Perplexity's crawler, and that key facts are readable without scripts.

When should you use other routes?

  • Personal information, such as a home address or phone number linked to an individual: use the privacy request route in Perplexity's privacy notice. Personal data rights under laws such as the GDPR belong to individuals. How to check whether Perplexity repeats personal information from a review is covered in how to check whether Perplexity repeats personal information from a doxxing review.
  • Defamatory claims, such as invented fraud or legal cases: document everything and take legal advice before escalating.
  • Your content copied without permission, and cited instead of your original: use copyright notice routes with the copying site's host and with Perplexity.

How do you check whether it worked?

Rerun the same question in new threads a week, two weeks and a month after your fixes. Record the answer and the sources each time. Check related questions too, since the error may appear in slightly different wording. When the corrected source is cited and the answer is right in every run over two consecutive checks, treat the issue as closed. Keep an eye on it monthly.

What might an illustrative case look like?

Consider an illustrative landscaping company whose Perplexity answers said it "no longer offers commercial contracts". Its commercial work was a third of its revenue. The owner reported the answer from the menu below it, with the thread link and a link to the commercial services page. The cited sources included a directory listing that showed only residential services, and an old blog post announcing a pause in commercial work during 2023. The owner updated the directory listing, added a dated note to the blog post saying commercial contracts had resumed, and put "commercial and residential" in the homepage's first line. Three weeks later, answers described both services and cited the homepage.

What do people ask about reporting Perplexity answers?

Will Perplexity reply to my report?

Not always. Treat the report as one step, and fix the sources at the same time.

Can I ask Perplexity to stop mentioning my business?

For businesses, generally not, unless there is a legal or privacy ground. For individuals, privacy rights may apply to personal information.

How long does a correction take?

Do not expect a fixed time. Recheck a week, two weeks and a month after your fixes; answers that rely on sources you cannot change may take longer.
