How Will ChatGPT Describe My SaaS When I Launch in a New Country?

When you launch your SaaS in a new country, ChatGPT will at first describe you much as it does at home. It will use your home-market prices, customers and compliance claims, translated into the local language if asked in it. For local-language category questions, such as "best CRM for small businesses" asked in Portuguese from Brazil, it may not mention you at all. Buyers there ask in their own language, from local IP addresses, and ChatGPT draws on local-language pages, review sites and press, where you do not exist yet. To be described and recommended correctly, publish a properly localized site with local prices, payment methods, invoicing, compliance and support stated in text. Build local proof through customers, reviews and coverage, and test in the local language from the country.

What will ChatGPT say at launch?

Question a local buyer asks Likely answer at launch Why
"What is [brand]?" in the local language Your home-market description, translated That is all it has read about you
"Best [category] for [country] companies" Local incumbents and big global names; you are absent Local sources do not mention you yet
"How much does [brand] cost?" Home-currency prices, or none Local prices are not published in text
"Does [brand] support [local payment or invoicing requirement]?" "I couldn't find information", or a guess Nothing states it
"Is [brand] compliant with [local data law]?" Generic advice, or your home-market compliance claims No local compliance page
"[Brand] vs [local competitor]" A thin comparison favouring the known local player Few sources compare you

None of this is permanent. It reflects what exists in the market's language when buyers start asking.

Why does the country and language change the answer?

  • Location. OpenAI says ChatGPT may use your IP address to estimate your general location, which shapes local search results and recommendations.
  • Language. A question asked in Portuguese tends to retrieve Portuguese pages. Profound's analysis of 3.25 billion citations across 14 countries found the language of a query mattered more than the country it came from. Weglot, a translation company, found sites available only in Spanish got about six times more Google AI Overview citations for Spanish queries than for English ones. For translated sites, the gap between languages was about 22%.
  • Local sources. Each market has its own review sites, trade press, communities and comparison articles, and assistants cite them for local questions.
  • Model memory. Training data about your company is mostly in your home language and predates your launch.

Why citations differ by country, language and topic is covered in why LLM citations vary by country, language and topic.

How do I make ChatGPT recommend our product in Brazil?

Brazil is a good example of how much local detail matters. Buyers ask in Portuguese and expect local commercial terms. A US-style site translated word for word gives assistants little to match.

  1. Build a Brazilian Portuguese section of your site, reviewed by native speakers, using the terms Brazilian buyers search with. Link language versions with hreflang. Machine-translated pages with no local detail rarely stand out.
  2. State local commercial facts in text: prices in reais, payment by Pix, boleto or card, whether you issue a nota fiscal (the electronic invoice Brazilian companies expect), contract language, and whether you have a local entity.
  3. Publish a data protection page for Brazil. Brazil's general data protection law, the LGPD, is the first thing many buyers ask about. Say how you comply, where data is hosted, and who your data protection contact is.
  4. List local integrations that matter to Brazilian businesses, such as widely used local ERPs, payment gateways and accounting tools.
  5. Offer and state Portuguese support, with hours in Brasília time.
  6. Build local proof: case studies with Brazilian customers in Portuguese, and reviews on the review sites Brazilian buyers use. If your company is listed on Reclame Aqui, a complaints and reputation site, claim the profile and respond to complaints.
  7. Earn local coverage in Brazilian trade media and communities, and through local partners and resellers.
  8. Publish honest comparisons with the local competitors buyers already know.

Which questions should you test?

Test in Portuguese, from a Brazilian connection or a tool that can set location, several times each:

  • "O que é [brand]?" (What is [brand]?)
  • "Melhor [categoria] para pequenas empresas no Brasil" (Best [category] for small businesses in Brazil)
  • "Quanto custa o [brand]?" (How much does [brand] cost?)
  • "[Brand] aceita Pix?" (Does [brand] accept Pix?)
  • "[Brand] emite nota fiscal?" (Does [brand] issue a nota fiscal?)
  • "[Brand] está em conformidade com a LGPD?" (Is [brand] LGPD compliant?)
  • "[Brand] ou [concorrente local]?" ([Brand] or [local competitor]?)

Record the language and currency of each answer, whether you are mentioned, what is said about local terms, and which sources are cited. Repeat the same set in English from the same location, since some Brazilian buyers search in English and the answers can differ. A general method for checking recommendations is covered in how to check whether ChatGPT recommends your SaaS.

How long does it take?

Answers that use web search can start reflecting your localized pages within weeks of them being indexed, and sooner once local sources cite you. Being recommended for competitive local category questions takes longer, because it depends on local reviews, coverage and comparisons building up. Answers from model memory will lag until newer models are trained on local material that mentions you.

Does the same approach work in other countries?

Yes. The checklist is the same everywhere; only the details change:

  • Language: a properly localized site section, not a translation layer alone.
  • Money: local currency, payment methods and invoicing norms.
  • Law: the local data protection regime and any sector rules.
  • Support: local-language support and hours.
  • Proof: local customers, local review sites and local press.

Launch sequencing matters too. Publish the localized pages before announcing the launch, so that the first wave of local questions finds answers.

What might an illustrative case look like?

Consider an illustrative US scheduling software company launching in Brazil. In its first month, ChatGPT answered Portuguese questions about it with US prices in dollars and said it "may not support Brazilian payment methods". It did not appear in "best scheduling software for clinics in Brazil" answers at all. The company launched a Brazilian Portuguese site section with prices in reais, Pix and boleto payment, nota fiscal issuance and an LGPD page. It published three Brazilian clinic case studies and asked every Brazilian customer for an honest review in their own words. Three months later, Portuguese answers described local pricing and payment correctly, and the company appeared in about a third of local category answers.

What do people ask about launching in a new country and AI answers?

Is machine translation good enough?

It is a starting point. Pages need review by native speakers and local detail, such as prices, payment and compliance, to be useful to buyers and assistants.

Do we need a local domain?

No. A language subfolder with hreflang works, as long as the content is genuinely local.

Will our English answers change too?

Sometimes. Local reviews and coverage can also appear in English answers about your company, especially for questions that mention the country.
