What Are the Best AI SEO Tools, and How Much Do They Cost?
"AI SEO tools" covers three different kinds of product: SEO suites that added AI features, content tools that write and optimise pages with AI, and trackers that measure how AI answers treat your brand. The best choice depends on which of those jobs you need done. Prices run from free to several hundred dollars a month, and there is a useful cluster of tools around $50. Kovmere, which is our product, is a tracker with drafted fixes; we cover it on the same terms as the rest.
What are the three kinds of AI SEO tool?
SEO suites with AI features. Semrush, Ahrefs, SE Ranking and Moz started as keyword, ranking and backlink tools and have added AI visibility tracking, AI Overview detection and AI writing help. They suit teams that already do traditional SEO and want AI data beside it.
AI content tools. Surfer, Frase and similar tools research, write and grade pages, and several now track AI visibility too. They suit teams whose main bottleneck is producing content.
AI visibility trackers. Otterly, Peec AI, Profound, HubSpot AEO and Kovmere ask AI engines questions and report whether you are mentioned, recommended or cited. They suit teams whose question is "what do AI answers say about us, and what should we change?"
Many businesses need only one of the three. Buying all of them is how AI SEO budgets get out of hand.
What do the main tools cost?
| Tool | Kind | Entry price | What the entry plan includes for AI |

| Frase | Content + tracking | $49 a month ($39 annually) | 50 AI prompts on ChatGPT and Google AI |

What AI SEO tools cost around $50 a month?
Several useful tools sit near $50, each with a different emphasis:
- HubSpot AEO, $50 a month. Twenty-five prompts run daily on ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, with citation analysis. It needs no HubSpot plan, and blog generation and CRM-based prompt suggestions come only with Marketing Hub.
- Frase Starter, $49 a month or $39 annually. A content platform with 50 AI prompts tracked on ChatGPT and Google AI, plus article writing. Frase says its AI visibility features do not fix anything automatically.
- Surfer Discovery, $49 a month billed yearly. Content research and optimisation, with no AI tracking; Surfer's AI tracking starts with AI Search Analytics at $82 a month billed yearly (50 prompts daily), and the $99 Standard plan adds 25 weekly prompts to its content tools.
- Ahrefs custom prompts, $50 a month. 80 prompts tracked on one AI platform, bought on their own without an Ahrefs plan; the market-wide Brand Radar index costs $199 a month per platform.
- Otterly Lite, $29 a month. Below $50, with 15 daily prompts on four engines and page audits.
- Kovmere Check, $19 once. Not a monthly tool: one reading of up to 18 buyer questions and 2 brand checks on five engines, with up to three drafted fixes and no subscription.
At this price, expect small prompt sets and few engines. That is often enough for a small business; it is rarely enough for an agency or a large site.
What does a sensible budget look like over a year?
Monthly prices look small until they are multiplied. A $50 tracker is $600 a year; a $99 suite add-on is close to $1,200; two overlapping tools can pass $2,000 before anyone has written a page. Three example setups:
- Starter: one $29 reading to see where you stand, plus your own time, and a month of a tracker or subscription only when you want a fixed set of questions re-asked after a round of changes: under $150 a year.
- Steady small business: one tracker or one monitored site at $50 to $80 a month: roughly $600 to $950 a year.
- Content-led team: a content tool and a tracker, or a suite with AI features: $1,500 to $3,000 a year.
What costs are easy to miss?
- Add-on engines. Claude, Gemini or AI Mode often cost extra on low-priced trackers.
- Extra prompts. Entry plans cap prompts; the next tier is often several times the price.
- Annual billing. Many headline prices assume a year paid upfront.
- Your team's time. Reading dashboards and writing the fixes is usually the largest cost of all.
Before buying, write down who will read the results each month and what they will change. If nobody can answer, start with a one-off reading instead of a subscription.
How should you choose?
- Name the job. Producing content, tracking AI answers, or doing traditional SEO with AI on the side.
- Check engine coverage against the assistants your buyers use, and price any add-ons.
- Look for evidence. Can you read the AI answers and see the cited pages?
- Check for action. Does the tool tell you what to change, or draft it?
- Avoid overlap. If your SEO suite already tracks 25 prompts, a separate tracker must add something real.
Which is best for which business?
- A small business new to AI search: Otterly Lite or a $19 Kovmere Check to see where you stand, then decide whether ongoing tracking is worth it.
- A content team publishing weekly: Frase or Surfer, so writing and tracking sit together.
- A marketing team that reports trends: Peec AI or HubSpot AEO for daily metrics.
- An SEO team already on a suite: the suite's AI add-on first, before another tool.
- A team that needs the fixes written: Kovmere Pro, which drafts up to 12 fixes per billing period from your own site.
What are Kovmere's limits?
Kovmere is not an SEO suite or a content writer: it has no keyword research, rank tracking or article generator. It measures one market per site with US settings, a fixed basket of up to 20 questions, samples engine APIs rather than consumer apps, and does not cover AI Mode or Copilot. It cannot guarantee that a fix will lead to citations or recommendations.

What do people ask about AI SEO tools?
Is "AI SEO" using AI for SEO, or optimising for AI answers?
Both, and tools mix the two. Content tools use AI to help with SEO; trackers measure how AI answers treat you. Decide which you need before comparing prices.
Do I need an AI SEO tool if I already use Semrush or Ahrefs?
Check their AI features first. Add a separate tool only if it covers engines, evidence or fixes your suite does not.
What is the cheapest useful option?
Among flat-rate daily trackers, Otterly Lite at $29 a month for 15 prompts on four engines; metered ziptie.ai or Rankscale's Essentials ($17 a month, billed yearly) can cost less for a small prompt set, and Keyword.com's AI Visibility plan starts at $7.83 a month billed yearly, the lowest paid entry. For a single reading with fixes, a one-time $19 Kovmere Check.
Are free AI SEO tools worth using?
For a first look, yes. Free graders and reports show roughly where you stand but rarely repeat questions or show enough evidence to plan work.
