Writesonic GEO Review: What Does Its GEO Tool Do?

Writesonic's GEO tool tracks whether your brand appears in AI answers and shows which prompts favour competitors. It reports AI bot and human traffic to your site, and ties those findings to Writesonic's AI writer, site audits and an Action Center of suggested fixes. Self-serve plans cost $79 to $399 a month billed annually, or $99 to $499 month to month. They track only ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews. On the brand plans, Perplexity, Claude, AI Mode, Copilot and Grok require Enterprise; agency plans differ. It suits content-led teams that want tracking and content production in one place. It suits buyers who need broad assistant coverage on a mid-range budget less well.

What does the GEO tool do?

Writesonic began as an AI writing tool and now presents itself as an AI search visibility platform. Its GEO features fall into five groups:

  • AI visibility tracking. Daily tracking of the prompts you choose, recording whether your brand and competitors are mentioned and which sources are cited, in one market per plan on self-serve tiers.
  • AI search tools. Brand Explorer and AI search volume estimates, both limited to five one-time runs on self-serve plans, plus monitoring of ads in ChatGPT and Google's AI results.
  • Action Center. Prioritised on-page, off-page and technical actions to improve visibility. Growth includes a trial of five on-page and five off-page actions a month. The full Action Center is on Enterprise.
  • Content and SEO. An AI article writer, content optimisation, brand voice settings and site audits that check pages for AI and SEO issues.
  • AI Bot Analytics. A dashboard of AI bot visits, human visits and bot error rates by platform and page.

Integrations include Google Search Console, WordPress and GA4, with Looker Studio on Enterprise.

Writesonic GEO pricing review: which plans include GEO features?

Every self-serve plan includes AI visibility tracking, but the plans differ in scale and in which GEO features they unlock. As listed on Writesonic's pricing page:

Starter Basic Growth Enterprise
Price, billed annually $79/mo $199/mo $399/mo Custom
Price, month to month $99/mo $249/mo $499/mo Custom
AI platforms ChatGPT, Gemini, AI Overviews Same Same All 10 platforms
Prompts tracked 50 100 200 Custom
Answers tracked daily 50 300 600 Custom
Markets 1 1 1 Custom
Sentiment analysis No No Yes Yes
Action Center No No Trial: 5 on-page + 5 off-page actions/mo Full
AI articles a month 15 25 50 Custom
Site audits 10 × 100 pages 20 × 1,200 pages 50 × 2,500 pages Custom
Users and projects 1 user, 1 project 2 users, 1 project 3 users, 2 projects Custom

Agencies have separate plans: Agency Starter, at $200 a month billed annually, tracks every platform except Claude for up to 20 short pitch audits a month, and Agency Enterprise is custom, with all platforms and white-label reports.

Month-to-month prices are derived from the annual savings Writesonic states, $240, $600 and $1,200 a year. Its documentation lists $249 and $499 month to month for Basic and Growth, which matches. Paid plans start with a free trial, and Writesonic says no credit card is needed.

What are the main limits?

Assistant coverage. Self-serve plans track three surfaces. Writesonic's documentation lists Perplexity, Google AI Mode, Claude, Microsoft Copilot and Grok among the platforms available on Enterprise. If Perplexity or Claude matters to your buyers, the self-serve plans will not show it.

Answers per prompt on Starter. Starter tracks 50 prompts but only 50 answers a day. So each prompt gets one answer a day, not one on each of the three platforms. Basic and Growth allow three answers per prompt per day (300 for 100 prompts, 600 for 200), which covers each platform daily. If you need a daily answer for every prompt from each included platform, Starter is not enough.

One market. Self-serve plans cover one language and country combination. Brands selling in several countries need Enterprise or separate projects.

Research tools are sampled. Brand Explorer and AI search volume come with five one-time runs on self-serve plans, enough to try them, not to use them routinely.

How useful is AI Bot Analytics?

It answers a question prompt tracking cannot: are AI systems actually visiting your pages? Writesonic's changelog describes bot visits, human visits and bot error rate, with bots classed as AI chatbot, search indexing or AI training. It also lists pages AI bots could not access and request-level audit logs. That is the kind of analysis you can also do from server or CDN logs. Having it next to prompt tracking helps you spot problems such as a crawler receiving errors on the pages you want cited. Check during the trial what the feature needs to collect data, and whether your hosting setup supports it. Why crawling does not guarantee citation is covered in whether being crawled by an AI bot means your pages will be cited.

Should you use the AI writer for GEO content?

Use it for drafts, not finished pages. AI-written articles that restate what already ranks rarely earn citations, because assistants have plenty of that content already. And publishing many lightly edited AI articles risks breaching Google's policy on scaled content abuse. Pages that get cited usually add something specific: first-hand detail, current prices, clear comparisons, data or expert judgement. Treat the article allowance as a drafting aid for writers who add that material.

How does it compare with other GEO tools?

Writesonic's distinctive feature is the loop from tracking to action to content in one product. Dedicated trackers often cover more assistants at lower prices, while SEO suites add keyword and backlink data. A direct comparison with an enterprise tracker is in Writesonic vs Profound. How to judge any tool before buying is covered in how to evaluate GEO tools before choosing one. A sceptical look at what trackers measure is in whether GEO tools are reliable or mostly measure noise.

Who is it for?

  • Good fit: content teams already producing articles, who want visibility tracking, audits and drafting in one place, and whose buyers mainly use ChatGPT, Gemini and Google.
  • Reasonable fit: Growth-plan teams that will use sentiment and the Action Center trial, and want AI bot data beside prompt tracking.
  • Poor fit: buyers who need Perplexity, Claude or several markets without an enterprise budget, or who only want tracking.

How should you run the trial?

  1. Prepare 30 to 50 prompts from real customer questions before starting.
  2. Track competitors you actually lose deals to.
  3. Run ten prompts yourself in ChatGPT, Gemini and Google, and compare the answers with what Writesonic records.
  4. Open the source data for prompts you lose, and judge whether the suggested actions are specific.
  5. Test AI Bot Analytics on your own site, and compare it with your server or CDN logs.
  6. Draft one article and judge how much editing it needs before it adds something new.
