Brand24 vs Mention for Tracking Conversations Inside AI Chat Interfaces

Neither tool can see real conversations inside ChatGPT, Claude or other assistants, because those chats are private and the providers do not share them. What they can do is different. Brand24 comes closest to the goal. Its AI Visibility module, and its sister product Chatbeat, run set prompts across AI models and report how often and how high your brand appears, with share of voice and the sources behind answers. Chatbeat starts at $99 a month for 30 prompts. Mention, now owned by Agorapulse, monitors web, news, review and social mentions. We found no Mention module that tracks AI answers. Both are useful for PR, but either can add noise to AI visibility reporting if used carelessly.

Can any tool track conversations inside AI chats?

Not your customers' private chats. Conversations in ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude or Perplexity happen in private accounts, and the providers do not share them with brands. Tools that report "AI conversations" do one of three things:

  • Simulate them. They send prompts to AI models on a schedule and record the answers. This is what Brand24's AI tools and dedicated trackers do.
  • Monitor the public web. They track what people publish about your brand, including content that AI models may later read. This is what Mention and Brand24's core product do.
  • Sample real conversations from opt-in panels. A few vendors, such as Profound, use data from consumer panels whose members agreed to share their AI chats, and report aggregated prompt volumes and trends. This shows what real people ask across a market, not what your own customers asked, and neither Brand24 nor Mention offers it.

Simulated prompts and web monitoring do not follow the flow of a real conversation, such as how an answer changes after a follow-up question. If you need that, run multi-turn tests yourself, writing down each turn. The honest limits of prompt-based tracking are covered in which AI visibility KPIs brands should track.

What does Brand24 track in AI answers?

Brand24 offers AI tracking in two places. Its AI Visibility module sits inside Brand24, as an add-on on the Individual to Business plans and included on Enterprise. Chatbeat is a separate product from the same company. Both run prompts about your brand, category and competitors across AI models and report:

  • Brand Score: a 0–100% measure of how often and how high your brand appears, where 100% means first place in every tracked prompt.
  • Median position: where your brand usually sits when an answer lists several options.
  • Visibility rating: bands that interpret the Brand Score, from Not Visible at 0% to Excellent at 70% or more.
  • Share of voice: your weighted share of recommendations compared with competitors, with higher positions counting more.
  • Key prompts and sources: which questions include or skip you, and which pages shape the answers.

Chatbeat's pricing page lists Essential at $99 a month for 30 prompts refreshed daily, Advanced at $299 for 100 prompts on six models, and Business at $599 for 300 prompts. The page shows different model counts for Essential in different places, so confirm which models your plan covers.

What does Mention track?

Mention tracks what people publish, not what AI models say. It monitors news, blogs, forums, social networks and more than 75 review sites, with sentiment, share of voice, influence scores and alerts. It uses ChatGPT to help build Boolean alerts, but that is a setup aid, not AI answer tracking. Mention is now part of Agorapulse, which handles publishing and replies, and its Company plan is sold by demo.

For AI visibility, Mention is useful upstream. The articles, reviews and discussions it finds are the kind of third-party sources AI answers draw on. It cannot tell you whether a given assistant repeats them.

Brand24 and Mention review: why PR trackers can produce noisy AI visibility data

PR trackers were built to count mentions. AI visibility asks a different question: when a buyer asks an assistant for a recommendation, are you named, how, and on whose evidence? Noise creeps in several ways:

  • Mentions are not recommendations. A web mention can be a complaint, a list of 40 vendors, or a passing reference. Counting it as visibility inflates the numbers.
  • AI-written pages in the source pool. The public web now holds many machine-written pages that repeat each other. Social listening counts them as mentions, even when no person wrote or read them.
  • Answer variation. The same prompt gives different answers from run to run. A score built from one run per prompt can swing without any real change.
  • Errors recorded as mentions. When an assistant states something false about you, a tracker logs it as a mention, possibly with positive sentiment. Wrong facts need their own review.
  • Outcomes need your analytics. Mentions and AI answers are not visits or sales; check your analytics to see whether they lead to either.

None of this makes the tools useless. It means their AI figures need the same care as any sampled data. How to handle negative or wrong mentions is covered in whether a negative mention counts as AI visibility.

How can you reduce the noise?

  1. Keep web mentions and AI answers in separate reports. They measure different things.
  2. Track prompts buyers really ask, not only branded questions, and fix the list for at least a month.
  3. Read samples of answers every week, marking any factual errors separately from positive or negative tone.
  4. Report ranges and trends, not single-day scores.
  5. Filter web mentions by source quality, excluding content farms and duplicate syndication.
  6. Join AI results to site data. Compare prompt visibility with AI referral sessions in your analytics.

A worked method for counting mentions with confidence intervals is in how to count brand mentions in AI responses.

What does each cost?

Brand24's social listening plans start at $199 a month billed annually ($249 monthly) for 3 keywords and 2,000 mentions a month, rising through Team ($299), Pro ($399) and Business ($599) to Enterprise from $1,499 a month. The AI Visibility module is an add-on below Enterprise, with no list price shown. Chatbeat starts at $99 a month. Mention's Company plan is priced by demo, with yearly billing giving two months free.

If AI answer tracking is the goal, Chatbeat alone is the cheapest route in the Brand24 family. Dedicated trackers such as Gauge and Otterly are also worth pricing.

Which should you choose?

  • Brand24 with the AI module or Chatbeat if one team wants social listening and AI answer tracking from one vendor.
  • Mention if you need media monitoring and reporting, and will track AI answers with another tool.
  • A dedicated AI tracker if AI visibility is the main goal and PR monitoring is handled elsewhere.

For comparison with other listening platforms that have added AI features, see the Brandwatch review and the MentionDesk review.

What might this look like in practice?

Consider an illustrative meal-kit company, Pantry Lane. Its PR team used Mention for press and review monitoring and reported rising mentions each month. Its growth team trialled Chatbeat on 30 buyer prompts and found the brand named in only a few answers about family meal kits, usually below two larger rivals. Reading the answers showed one assistant quoting an old delivery area. The teams agreed to report the two numbers separately, fixed the outdated delivery information on their own site and in major review listings, and watched both the prompt results and AI referral visits for two months.

What do people ask about Brand24 and Mention?

Can Brand24 see what people ask ChatGPT?

No. Brand24's AI tools run set prompts and record the answers. Only panel-based tools see real conversations, and then only aggregated, from people who opted in.

Does Mention track AI answers?

We found no Mention feature that tracks AI answers. It monitors web, news, review and social mentions.

What is Chatbeat?

Brand24's AI visibility product, which tracks how AI models describe your brand across set prompts.

Is Brand24's Brand Score reliable?

It is a useful summary, but it is built on sampled answers. Read the answers behind it and watch trends over weeks.
