Local Falcon Review: Tracking Whether Local Businesses Appear in ChatGPT Answers

Local Falcon applies its geo-grid rank tracking to AI answers. It asks ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok, Google AI Mode or AI Overviews the same question from up to 441 points across your service area. It then reports the share of points where your business is mentioned, along with the answers and the sources they cite. That makes it one of the few tools that shows local AI visibility by neighbourhood, with competitors alongside. For a local business, that is the question that matters: does ChatGPT suggest you to someone searching a few streets away? It is priced in credits, one per grid point, from $24.99 a month for 7,500 credits. It is best used alongside map rankings, not instead of them.

How does Local Falcon track AI answers?

Local Falcon places a grid of points over your area, from 3 by 3 (9 points) to 21 by 21 (441 points). For AI platforms, each point is a separate query from that location. Because AI answers vary between runs, the grid doubles as a sample: more points give a steadier read on how often you are mentioned. For each point, it records:

  • Whether an AI answer appeared, for Google's AI Overviews, which do not show for every search.
  • Whether your business was mentioned or cited.
  • The answer itself and the sources used.

Its main metric is Share of AI Voice (SAIV): the percentage of grid points where your business is mentioned. Local Falcon leaves out answers that mention no business at all, so SAIV reflects your share of answers that do name businesses. The platforms covered are ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Gemini and Grok, alongside Google Maps and Apple Maps rankings. Campaigns can schedule recurring scans across several platforms with the same settings.

Is LocalFalcon’s AI Overviews tracking useful compared with traditional metrics?

Yes, as an addition. Traditional local metrics, such as average rank position and share of local voice in Google Maps, tell you where you appear in the map pack. AI Overviews tracking tells you something different: whether Google shows an AI summary for that keyword at each point, and whether it names you. That matters because Overviews can push the map pack down the page or, for some searches, take its place.

The value depends on the keyword. Whitespark's May 2025 study of local searches found AI Overviews on only about 15% of searches with direct local intent, such as "plumber near me", but on most informational and mixed searches, such as questions about costs or how to choose a provider. Local packs showed on about 93% of direct local searches. So for "dentist near me", map rankings still matter most. For "how much does teeth whitening cost in Leeds", AI Overviews tracking shows a visibility layer map tracking misses. Track both kinds of keyword. The wider shift is covered in whether AI results are replacing map packs in local search.

LocalFalcon review: surfacing AI citation data for competitors

Local Falcon shows the AI answer and the sources behind it for each scan, and competitor reports compare your visibility with the businesses AI names instead. Its Falcon AI analysis, included on scan reports at 25 credits each, suggests citation sites worth pursuing, such as directories and review sites that appear for your keywords, and recommends AI search keywords to track.

Running scans on competitors' target keywords is especially useful. You see which of them AI names in each part of town and which sites it cites for them, such as a local guide, a trade directory or a review platform. Those are the places to earn a listing or a mention. How ChatGPT picks local businesses is covered in how ChatGPT chooses which local businesses to recommend.

What does it cost?

As listed on Local Falcon's pricing page:

Package Monthly Credits a month
Starter $24.99 7,500
Basic $49.99 15,150
Pro $99.99 31,250
Premium $199.99 63,150

Annual packages give more credits for the same monthly price, enterprise packages run from $499 to $4,999 a month, and extra credits cost $0.05 each. New accounts get 100 free credits. One credit is one grid point in a scan; monthly credits expire at the end of each month. Integrations such as Looker Studio and Zapier come with packages above Starter.

A typical small business might scan 10 keywords on a 7 by 7 grid (49 points) in Google Maps, ChatGPT and AI Overviews, weekly. That uses about 6,400 credits a month, within the Starter package, before competitor scans and Falcon AI reports. Local Falcon's Credit Explorer estimates usage before you schedule.

Where does it fall short?

  • Mention, not recommendation. SAIV counts mentions; read the answers to see whether you are recommended first or listed in passing.
  • Location simulation. Each point simulates a search from that spot. AI assistants use location differently, and a logged-in user's own history can change answers.
  • Engines. It covers ChatGPT, Google's AI features, Gemini and Grok, but not Perplexity, Claude or Copilot.
  • Credit planning. Large grids across many keywords and platforms add up quickly.

We have not tested Local Falcon ourselves; this review is based on its published pages. How precise location-based AI tracking can be is discussed in whether AI visibility trackers are precise enough for local SEO.

Who is it for?

  • Good fit: local businesses, multi-location brands and local SEO agencies that already use geo-grid tracking and want AI visibility on the same maps.
  • Reasonable fit: franchises checking whether AI names each location in its own area.
  • Poor fit: businesses without a local service area, and teams needing broad national AI tracking across many engines.

How should you set it up?

  1. Pick five direct local keywords and five informational ones for each location.
  2. Start with a 5 by 5 or 7 by 7 grid to keep credits down.
  3. Scan Google Maps, ChatGPT and AI Overviews for the same keywords.
  4. Add two competitors and compare where AI names them and you.
  5. Review cited sources in the reports and list directories and sites to target.
  6. Schedule weekly or fortnightly scans and judge trends over a month or more.

What might this look like in practice?

Consider an illustrative roofing company, Zellisk Roofing, covering a city and its suburbs. Map rankings were strong near its office but weak in the northern suburbs. The ChatGPT grid showed a similar pattern, with SAIV of 70% in the centre and near zero in the north, where ChatGPT named a competitor cited on a regional home improvement directory. Zellisk joined the directory, kept asking every customer for an honest review and added a page about roof repair in the northern suburbs. Two months later, its northern SAIV had risen to about a third of grid points.
