Local SEO Rank Trackers That Monitor ChatGPT Visibility Alongside Map-Pack Rankings

A few local SEO tools now put ChatGPT visibility beside map-pack rankings. BrightLocal's Track plan, from $41 a month for one location, includes local rank tracking and a Local AI Visibility Tracker for ChatGPT, Google AI Mode and AI Overviews. Local Falcon samples Google Maps, Apple Maps and AI answers across a map grid, priced in credits from $24.99 a month. Yext Scout benchmarks each location across Google Search, Maps and AI engines. Whitespark tracks the map pack in detail but has no AI answer tracker. Kovmere, which is our product, reads AI answers to local buyer questions in depth but does not track map rankings at all. Most local businesses need one tool that does both reasonably, or a rank tracker plus a separate AI reading.

Why track ChatGPT and the map pack together?

The map pack and AI answers often disagree. A business can sit at the top of the map pack near its address and be missing from ChatGPT's answer to "best emergency plumber in Mesa", because the two use different inputs: Google's map results rank Business Profiles by relevance, distance and prominence, while ChatGPT builds an answer from the sources it retrieves, often Yelp, directories and business websites. Tracking both side by side shows which problem you have.

Which tool fits which local business?

A single-location business that wants one platform: BrightLocal. Rank tracking, citation monitoring, profile audits and the AI tracker sit in one Track plan, and citation gaps from the AI sources leaderboard can be passed to its Citation Builder.

A business serving a wide area: Local Falcon. Its grids show both map rankings and AI answers point by point, so a roofer or locksmith sees where visibility fades with distance.

A multi-location brand: Yext Scout, for location-by-location benchmarking against nearby competitors across search, maps and AI engines.

An agency already using Whitespark for local rankings: keep Whitespark for the map pack and add an AI tool for the answers.

A business that wants to read exactly what assistants say and fix its website: a rank tracker you already use plus Kovmere, which shows the full answers on OpenAI, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and Google AI Overviews, the directories and pages they cite, and drafts service pages, area pages or profile updates from facts on your site.

What should you compare across the two views?

  1. Are you in the map pack but missing from AI answers? Look at the sources the answers cite: directories, review sites and competitors' websites you are not on or that say more than yours.
  2. Are you in AI answers but low in the map pack? Work on your Google Business Profile: categories, services, photos and reviews.
  3. Do both drop with distance? Your service-area pages and profile may not make the area you serve clear.
  4. Do the same competitors win both? Study what their profiles and pages say that yours do not.

What might the two views show together?

Take an illustrative dental practice. The map pack shows it in the top three within two miles and absent beyond five. ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity name two other practices for "dentist that takes new patients and is open Saturdays near downtown", citing Yelp, a local "best dentists" list and their own pages, which state Saturday hours and new-patient availability plainly. The practice's profile lists Saturday hours, but its website does not, and it is missing from the list. Fixes come from both views: a website page on hours and new patients, and a request to the list's editor.

What does tracking both views cost for one location?

Using published prices for a single location:

  • BrightLocal Track: $41 a month, or $31 billed annually, for map tracking and the AI tracker together.
  • Local Falcon Starter: $24.99 a month for 7,500 credits. One credit is one map point, so ten keywords on a 7×7 grid, checked across three AI platforms every week, uses roughly 6,400 credits a month before any map scans.
  • Whitespark plus a separate AI reading: a ranking grid from $10 a month or the rank tracker from $14, plus whatever the AI tool costs, such as a $19 one-off Kovmere Check or Pro at $49 a month.
  • Yext Scout: priced per location, with a free check to start.

Grid size and frequency move the totals more than the plan names do.

What are the limits of these tools?

Map trackers and AI samples are approximations: location settings stand in for real searchers, and AI answers vary from run to run. Grid tools can consume credits quickly. Kovmere measures one market per site, does not track map rankings or cover AI Mode, and samples engine APIs rather than consumer apps. No tool can guarantee a business will be named.

How often should local businesses check both views?

Monthly is enough for most single-location businesses: one map-pack check and one AI reading on the same week, so the two can be compared. Check sooner after changing hours, moving, adding services or receiving a burst of reviews, and allow a few weeks for both Google and AI engines to reflect the change. Multi-location brands and businesses in competitive trades may want weekly map tracking, with AI readings monthly or weekly depending on how much work is being done between them.

What do people ask about local rank and AI tracking?

Does ranking in the map pack mean ChatGPT will recommend me?

No. The two use different sources. A strong profile helps both, but ChatGPT leans more on directories, reviews and websites.

Which tool tracks ChatGPT and Google Maps together?

BrightLocal, Local Falcon and Yext Scout all show both, in different ways.

Can Whitespark track AI answers?

Not at present; it focuses on local rankings, citations and reviews.

Is a grid necessary for AI tracking?

Only if your visibility varies across a wide service area. A business serving one neighbourhood can track a few questions for its city.
