Moz Pro Review: SERP Tracking and AI Citation Features
Moz Pro is a mid-priced SEO suite that now pairs weekly rank tracking with AI visibility. The Standard plan costs $99 a month, or $79 billed yearly. It includes 300 tracked keywords and detection of AI Overviews for those keywords. It also includes three AI Visibility dashboards that track 150 prompts weekly in ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Mode and Perplexity, showing the domains and pages that shape each answer. It suits small teams that want SEO data and a first view of AI visibility in one place, at a low price. The limits are weekly data for both rankings and prompts, no accuracy checks, and little detail on who AI Overviews cite. Teams needing daily data at scale will look to Moz's enterprise tracker, STAT.
What are the plans?
As listed on Moz's pricing page:
| Plan | Monthly | Billed yearly | Users | Sites | Keywords | AI prompts | AI dashboards |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $49 | — | — | — | — | None | None |
| Standard | $99 | $79/mo | 1 | 3 | 300 | 150 | 3 |
| Medium | $179 | $143/mo | 2 | 10 | 1,500 | 300 | 6 |
| Large | $299 | $239/mo | 3 | 25 | 3,000 | 600 | 12 |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | Custom | Custom | Custom | Custom | Custom |
The Starter plan has no AI features, so AI visibility starts at Standard. Every plan from Standard up tracks the same four AI models weekly, includes AI prompt suggestions and adds AI content briefs: 2, 10 and 50 a month. Extra user seats cost $49 a month, and extra keywords, campaigns and crawl capacity can be added. There is a free trial.
How does SERP tracking work?
Moz Pro tracks rankings through campaigns. Each campaign follows your site plus three competitors, across up to four search engines per keyword. Rankings update once a week. Between weekly updates, the live SERP Analysis in Moz's Analyze a Keyword report shows where you rank now, so you can spot movement without waiting a full week; the Highest Ranking Position graph itself only changes with the weekly update. Reports show SERP features alongside organic positions, and Moz's own metrics, such as Domain Authority and Brand Authority, sit next to them for context.
Weekly tracking is enough for most small businesses, whose pages and competitors change slowly, and it keeps reports calm enough to share with owners who do not want daily noise. It is too slow for large sites testing changes, news publishers or anyone who needs to react within days.
What AI citation features does Moz Pro have?
- AI Visibility dashboard: tracks when and where your brand is mentioned in answers to your prompts, how early it appears, and how that compares with competitors.
- Sources: the exact domains and pages that influence the answers to your tracked prompts, which shows the sites AI trusts in your industry.
- Prompt suggestions: a list of prompts based on any topic or brand term, to help build your tracked set.
- AI Overview detection: shows when AI Overviews appear for your target keywords, so you can see where they may be taking clicks.
- AI content briefs: outlines for new content, limited by plan.
Moz describes its AI Overview feature as detection, telling you which keywords trigger an Overview. Its pages do not describe showing which sites each Overview cites or whether you are among them. If citation position inside AI Overviews matters, a tracker built for that, such as those compared in STAT vs Nozzle vs seoClarity vs BrightEdge, goes further.
How good is the AI tracking?
Weekly prompts on four models give about 2,600 answers a month on Standard (150 prompts × 4 models × about 4.3 weeks). At $99 that is roughly 4 cents an answer, or about 3 cents billed yearly, with the SEO suite included, which is competitive with many standalone trackers; the trade-off is weekly rather than daily data. Extra prompts cost $50 per 100.
Weekly checks are enough to see broad trends but will swing from week to week, since AI answers vary between runs. Judge movement over a month or more. Sentiment analysis and citation data are included, but there is no check of whether answers are accurate, and no coverage of Claude or Copilot. How those gaps affect error detection is covered in whether Semrush, Ahrefs or Moz can detect hallucinations.
How does it compare with Semrush and SE Ranking?
At a similar price, Semrush's AI Visibility Toolkit tracks 25 prompts daily for $99 per domain, but sits apart from Semrush's SEO plans unless you buy a Semrush One bundle. SE Ranking's Core plan at $129 combines 2,000 keywords with 100 daily prompts. Moz's advantage is simplicity and price for a combined SEO and AI view on small sites; its disadvantage is weekly data. A comparison of the other two is in SE Ranking vs Semrush for combining SERP and AI search insights.
Where does Moz Pro fall short?
- Weekly data for rankings and prompts.
- Four AI models, without Claude or Copilot.
- No accuracy checks in AI Visibility: sentiment is reported, but not whether answers are correct.
- AI Overview detection rather than citation tracking.
- One user on Standard, with extra seats at $49 a month each.

Moz Pro or STAT?
Moz also owns STAT, its enterprise tracker. STAT tracks keywords daily and prompts weekly in ChatGPT, Gemini, AI Mode, Perplexity and Claude, stores full responses and cited sources, and starts at $360 a month for 3,000 weekly prompts or daily keywords. Choose Moz Pro if you are a small team wanting SEO tools and a light AI view. Choose STAT if you track thousands of keywords, need daily data, or want to pull everything through an API.
Who is it for?
- Good fit: small businesses and in-house marketers who want rank tracking, site audits, link data and a first AI visibility view under $100 a month.
- Reasonable fit: small agencies on Medium or Large, reporting weekly to clients.
- Poor fit: teams needing daily data, many AI engines, answer accuracy checks or AI Overview citation detail.
How should you trial it?
- Set up one campaign with your site, three competitors and your 50 most important keywords.
- Use prompt suggestions to draft 20 prompts, then edit them so they sound like real buyers.
- Wait for two weekly updates before judging AI visibility.
- Compare the sources list with pages you know matter in your market.
- Check AI Overview detection against a manual search for five keywords.
What might this look like in practice?
Consider an illustrative independent bike shop, Quellwick Cycles, on Moz Pro Standard. Rank tracking showed steady top-five positions for "bike repair" in its city, while AI Overview detection flagged that half those keywords now showed an Overview. The AI Visibility dashboard found the shop mentioned in only a few of its tracked prompts, with a regional cycling club's guide cited most often. The owner offered the club a free maintenance workshop, which the club wrote up, and added a repair price list to the shop's site. Mentions rose over the following two months.
