Profound vs Evertune for Retail Product Recommendation Monitoring
Both tools track how ChatGPT recommends products, and both currently focus their shopping data on ChatGPT. Profound is stronger on fixing placement. It offers SKU-level analysis with the citations and keywords behind each product, checks on attribute accuracy, and a Merchant Layer showing which retailers own your checkout. It then suggests actions on feeds, structured data and merchants. Evertune is stronger on market-level measurement. It reports the shopping trigger rate for your category, product visibility with prices and ratings, retailer analysis, and competitive pricing as AI shows it. It samples each prompt up to 100 times, and its Pro plan costs $800 a month. Retailers that also sell through Amazon or Walmart will need other coverage.

Why is product recommendation monitoring different from brand tracking?
Because shopping answers are structured. When ChatGPT shows shopping results, it typically presents three to five products with prices, reviews and links to buy, rather than a paragraph that mentions brands. Winning that slot depends less on your website's authority and more on product data: feed quality, attributes, merchant listings and reviews. Profound's help centre puts it plainly: AI shopping results are not determined by organic search rankings, and a competitor can win placements through feed quality, merchant relationships and structured data while having little organic visibility.
It also means the first question is whether shopping appears at all. Both tools measure it: Profound as Shopping Mode Rate, Evertune as Shopping Trigger Rate. Profound notes that prompts with words like "buy," "shop," "where to find," or a price or budget tend to trigger shopping, so a low rate may mean your tracked prompts are not commercial enough rather than that your category lacks shopping answers.
Where is Profound stronger?
In turning results into product fixes. Its SKU-level view shows which of your products ChatGPT surfaces, how often and for which prompts, with the citations and keywords related to each. Attribute accuracy shows whether ChatGPT describes a product correctly, such as material, size or compatibility. The Merchant Layer shows which retailers and direct stores own the checkout when your product appears, and where a competitor's retailer is capturing the sale.
Profound then points to three kinds of action: fixing feed fields and structured markup so ChatGPT identifies and tiles products correctly, directing catalogue updates toward the retail partners that win the most placements, and briefing pages for product types where competitors appear and you do not. Its research also found that AI shopping answers lean on community discussion, consumer editorial and review-heavy sources, which shapes the content side. More on structuring product data is in how ecommerce brands can structure product data for AI recommendations.
Where is Evertune stronger?
In measuring the category with enough samples to trust. Evertune's Shopping Intelligence, launched in January 2026, captures every product and retailer that appears in shopping results for your category, not only your own. Product Performance adds visibility scores, prices, review ratings and the topics that trigger each recommendation. It shows, for example, when headphones are recommended for battery life but never for sound quality. Competitive pricing shows the price ranges, medians and averages AI displays for you and rivals, which matters if assistants consistently show competitors as cheaper.
Evertune's wider platform samples each prompt up to 100 times per model. That matters for shopping data, because the products shown vary from run to run. At a 30% appearance rate, 10 runs give a margin of error of about 28 points either way, while 100 runs narrow it to about 9. More on Evertune's sampling and pricing is in the Evertune review.
What does neither tool cover well?
Shopping assistants beyond ChatGPT. Evertune says it plans to add models as they introduce shopping, and Profound's shopping pages describe ChatGPT. Retailers that sell through Amazon, Walmart or Google will want coverage of Rufus, Sparky or AI Mode shopping too. Goodie's Pro plan covers those surfaces, as described in Peec AI vs Goodie for ecommerce teams.
Stock is the other gap. An assistant may recommend a product that is out of stock or discontinued. Neither tool's pages describe stock checks, so match recommended SKUs against your inventory yourself. How to handle that is covered in how retailers should handle AI recommendations for out-of-stock products.
How should a retailer set up monitoring?
- Write shopping prompts the way buyers ask: product type, use, budget and "where to buy."
- Check the trigger rate first, and add commercial wording if shopping rarely appears.
- Track your top SKUs, not just the brand, and note which retailer owns each placement.
- Compare attributes and prices in answers against your catalogue each week.
- Fix feeds and listings at the merchants that win most placements before rewriting pages.
- Sample enough runs that product shares are stable before reporting changes.
Where does each fall short?
- Profound: no published price; shopping data centred on ChatGPT; sample counts per prompt not stated on the pages we read.
- Evertune: shopping data currently ChatGPT only; whether Shopping Intelligence is included in Pro is not stated on the pricing page, so ask.
- Both: no stock checks described; Amazon and Walmart assistants not covered.
We have not tested either tool's shopping data ourselves; this comparison relies on their product pages, help centre, pricing and launch announcement.
What might this look like in practice?
Consider an illustrative kitchen appliance brand, Stavcombe, selling espresso machines through its own store and three large retailers. On Evertune, the trigger rate for "best espresso machine under $300" prompts was high, and Stavcombe's machines appeared in about a fifth of shopping results, usually shown at a higher median price than two rivals. On Profound, the Merchant Layer showed one retailer owned most of Stavcombe's checkout links, and attribute accuracy showed ChatGPT listing the wrong pump pressure. Stavcombe corrected the feed at that retailer and added structured specifications to its own product pages.
