What Is the Best WordPress Plugin for SEO, AEO, and GEO?
For most sites, Rank Math, Yoast or AIOSEO will do the job, and the choice matters less than the work around it. All three handle titles, meta descriptions, schema, sitemaps and an llms.txt file, and each now adds AI features. Rank Math sells AI visibility tracking for ChatGPT and Gemini from a few euros a month. Yoast's AI+ plan tracks five brand questions weekly across four assistants. AIOSEO adds AI content generation, an MCP server and an AI Insights report. None of them can guarantee AI recommendations or optimise a site automatically. They make a site technically ready; being cited still depends on content and on what other sites say about you.

Rank Math vs Yoast for AI visibility: can either plugin guarantee recommendations?
No. Neither plugin, nor any other, can make ChatGPT, Gemini or Google's AI features recommend you. AI answers draw on content across the web, much of it outside your site. Google's June 2026 guidance on third-party SEO tools makes the point directly: using a service or tool does not guarantee ranking success. What the plugins can do is remove technical obstacles and show you where you stand. Treat any plugin marketing that implies guaranteed AI placement as a warning sign.
Yoast vs Rank Math for AI SEO and AEO features
- Tracking. Rank Math AI's Starter plan tracks one brand weekly or monthly on ChatGPT or Gemini, from €4.99 a month billed annually at its launch price. Creator tracks ten brands, and Expert tracks 50 brands daily on both ChatGPT and Gemini. Yoast's AI Brand Insights, in the $358.80 AI+ bundle, runs up to five brand questions weekly across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Claude, with citations, competitor ranking and sentiment. Rank Math covers more brands for less; Yoast covers more assistants. Yoast's tool is covered in the Yoast AI Brand Insights review.
- Structured data. Yoast builds one linked schema graph and offers an opt-in Schema Aggregation endpoint that consolidates it. Rank Math offers a flexible schema generator with many pre-built types.
- llms.txt. Both generate one. Google Search does not use llms.txt, so treat it as optional for other services, as covered in how to write an llms.txt file.
- AI writing. Rank Math's Content AI has more than 40 tools with monthly limits by plan. Yoast Premium includes AI Generate, AI Optimize and AI Summarize.
Rank Math for AI SEO: Is it enough with manual audits and outreach?
For most small and mid-sized sites, yes. Rank Math PRO, or even the free version, covers the technical groundwork: titles, schema, sitemaps, redirects, llms.txt and internal linking. Add Rank Math AI if you want basic ChatGPT and Gemini tracking. The rest is manual, and no plugin package replaces it:
- Audits. Ask the assistants your customers use the questions they ask, note who is named, and read the sources cited.
- Content. Improve the pages that should answer those questions with specifics, comparisons and current facts.
- Outreach. Earn mentions on the review sites, directories and publications that AI answers cite for your category.
Heavier "AI SEO" bundles mostly add generation and dashboards. They do not add the reputation that gets you cited.
Can an AEO plugin automatically optimize a website for AI answers?
Only the technical layer. A plugin can generate schema, meta tags, sitemaps and an llms.txt file, manage crawler rules, ping IndexNow and add FAQ or summary blocks. It cannot:
- Write content worth citing. Google's AI optimisation guide says non-commodity content, meaning original, expert and first-hand material, likely influences presence more than anything else.
- Earn third-party mentions, reviews or coverage.
- Fix wrong facts elsewhere, such as old directory listings.
- Decide what your buyers ask.
AI-generated text from a plugin also carries a risk. Google's guide says creating separate content for every search variation mainly to manipulate AI responses breaches its scaled content abuse policy. More on the overall approach is in how to implement GEO on a WordPress website.
Yoast SEO FAQ blocks review: do they improve snippets and AI visibility?
Not in Google's snippets any more. Yoast's FAQ block adds visible questions and answers with FAQPage structured data. Google limited FAQ rich results to well-known government and health sites in August 2023, then stopped showing them for all sites from May 7, 2026. The markup is harmless, but it no longer produces FAQ snippets.
For AI visibility, the evidence for the markup is weak. Ahrefs tracked 1,885 pages that added JSON-LD, including FAQ markup, and found no measurable gain in ChatGPT or AI Mode citations against matched controls. The visible content is what can help. Clear questions as headings, with direct answers below, match the sub-questions assistants search for. Write the FAQ for readers, keep it to real questions, and use the block if it helps you format it.
WordPress plugins that score pages for GEO readiness without API calls
A few smaller plugins score content locally, which avoids sending pages to outside services:
- OmniGEO AI SEO scores how easily an AI could lift a clean answer from your text, with checks for answer-first openings, headings and tables. Its developer says everything works locally and free; only an optional visibility check calls OpenAI, Anthropic or Perplexity with your own key.
- Opttab – AI Visibility & GEO gives a sitewide GEO score and recommendations in its free tier, which its listing says makes no external calls and works offline. Premium features need an Opttab account.
- RankReady makes no API calls on page load and records AI crawler activity and referrals on your own server. Its AI generation uses your own model key.
Their scores are each developer's own heuristics, not measures validated against AI citations. Use them as editing checklists, and check the plugin's update history and support before installing on a production site. We have not tested these plugins ourselves; the descriptions come from their WordPress.org listings.
AIOSEO review: how its AI optimization and entity features support AI Overviews
AIOSEO describes itself as an AI SEO plugin, used on more than 3 million sites with a 4.7-star rating on WordPress.org. Its AI features include an AI Content Generator for titles, descriptions, FAQs and articles, an AI Schema Generator, and a built-in MCP server that lets agents such as Claude read and update a site's SEO data. It generates an llms.txt file by default and offers an AI Insights keyword report for tracking how a brand appears across ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews.
Its entity features are the more durable part. Organization and Person schema describe who is behind the site, the Local SEO module adds business details, and Author SEO adds author pages, bio boxes and author schema. These help Google understand the business and its authors.
They do not unlock AI Overviews on their own. Google says its AI features are rooted in its core ranking and quality systems, and that no special schema is needed for generative AI search. AIOSEO's entity markup supports that foundation; it is not a separate AI Overviews switch. Plans run from Basic at $99 a year for one site to Elite at $599 for 100 sites, with AI credits rising from 10,000 to 200,000.
Which should you choose?
- Rank Math: best value, especially for several personal sites or if you want cheap ChatGPT and Gemini tracking.
- Yoast: best if you value a mature schema graph, or want tracking across four assistants in one bundle.
- AIOSEO: best if you want AI generation, agent access through MCP, and author and local features in one plugin.
- Any of them, if the real work of content, audits and outreach gets done.

What might this look like in practice?
Consider an illustrative bakery supplies shop, Flourhouse, running WooCommerce. It kept its existing Rank Math PRO set-up, enabled llms.txt, and added a Rank Math AI Starter plan to track its brand in ChatGPT weekly. The tracking showed ChatGPT naming two competitors for "best bread flour for sourdough". Their product pages listed protein content and milling details that Flourhouse's did not. Flourhouse added those specifications, wrote a guide comparing its flours, and sent samples to two baking bloggers. Three months later, ChatGPT named Flourhouse in some answers. The plugin had shown the gap; closing it took content and outreach.
What do people ask about WordPress plugins for GEO?
Do I need a separate GEO plugin if I use Yoast or Rank Math?
Usually not. Both already generate llms.txt and schema, and both offer AI visibility tracking as paid add-ons.
Does an llms.txt file help with Google?
No. Google Search does not use llms.txt. Other services may read it.
Do FAQ blocks still create Google rich results?
No. Google stopped showing FAQ rich results for all sites from May 7, 2026.
Can a plugin get my site into AI Overviews?
No plugin can guarantee it. Google's AI features rely on its core ranking and quality systems.
