AthenaHQ vs Rankscale for Multilingual AI Visibility Across Client Accounts
For agencies tracking clients in several languages and countries, Rankscale is the easier and cheaper fit. It says it covers 240+ countries and all languages, and sells shared credits at about a quarter of a credit per answer. Its $385 Growth plan includes 50 brand dashboards, white-label reports and an API. AthenaHQ covers 90+ countries and multiple languages, but its $295 Starter plan is limited to a single region. Multi-market client work therefore usually means its Enterprise plan, alongside an agency programme with volume pricing and pitch workspaces. In either tool, multilingual tracking only works if prompts are written natively for each market, not translated from English.

Why is multilingual tracking harder than adding languages?
Because language and market are different things. Spanish in Mexico, Spain and the United States produces different answers, citing different local sources and naming different competitors. English in India is not English in Britain. A tracker that lets you choose a language but not a country, or runs a model without location context, can show an answer that no real buyer in that market would see.
Three rules follow. Write prompts natively in each language, the way local buyers ask, rather than translating an English list. Set the country as well as the language for each prompt set. And build a competitor set for each market, since a client's main rival in Germany may not exist in Brazil. How answers and citations differ by market is covered in why LLM citations vary by country, language and topic.
How does Rankscale handle multiple clients and markets?
Rankscale's structure fits agencies well. Each client brand gets its own dashboard, with 50 on Growth, and credits are shared across them, so a large client in five markets and a small one in a single market draw from the same pool. It says region-specific tracking is available on every plan, and a recent update lets several domains sit under one brand, which suits clients with country sites such as .de and .fr. Each brand can run on its own schedule, from hourly to monthly, so a client's main market can be tracked daily and smaller markets weekly.
Rankscale tracks both chat interfaces and raw models. For multilingual work, prefer the chat interfaces for market-specific prompts, because a raw model called without location context may not reflect what buyers in that country see. Ask Rankscale how location is applied for each engine you choose. More on its features is in the Rankscale review.
How does AthenaHQ handle them?
AthenaHQ positions its Enterprise plan for multi-brand and multi-market work. Its market-expansion pages describe tracking across 90+ countries and multiple languages, finding markets where brands are underrepresented, localising content strategy to regional AI recommendation patterns and benchmarking against local competitors. For portfolios, it adds cross-brand benchmarking and a check for brands in the same group competing against each other in AI recommendations.
For agencies, AthenaHQ runs a partner programme with volume bands by number of client brands, centralised client management, team permissions and pitch-ready workspaces. The catch for multilingual work is the Starter plan's single region: an agency can track one market per Starter account, but several markets per client need Enterprise, priced by quote. A third-party review found no documented white-label portal, so ask how client-facing reports are branded. More on AthenaHQ's agency set-up is in AthenaHQ versus Goodie for agencies.
What does multilingual client tracking cost?
Take an agency with five clients, each tracked in three markets on 30 native-language prompts across four engines, run weekly. That is 1,800 prompt-and-engine combinations, or about 7,800 answers a month.
- Rankscale: at about 0.25 credit per answer, that is roughly 1,950 credits a month. Pro+ at $229, with 3,000 credits, 25 brand dashboards and the REST API, covers it; Growth at $385, with 5,500 credits, adds white-label dashboards and room to run the main market daily for two clients. Pro's 1,200 credits would not.
- AthenaHQ: at one credit per response, 7,800 credits a month is more than twice Starter's 3,600, and Starter covers one region only. This set-up needs Enterprise or agency pricing, by quote.
Daily tracking of the same set would need about 54,000 answers a month, beyond Rankscale Enterprise's 48,000, so a practical set-up mixes daily tracking in priority markets with weekly tracking elsewhere.
How should you set up each client?
- List the markets each client actually sells in, with the language used in each.
- Write 20 to 40 prompts per market with a native speaker, covering category, use-case and comparison questions.
- Set country and language for every prompt set, and check a sample of answers by hand in each market.
- Build a local competitor set per market.
- Choose frequency by market value: daily for the main market, weekly for others.
- Report by market first, then roll up, so a weak market is not hidden in a global average.
A wider agency workflow is covered in how agencies track AI visibility across multiple clients and locations, and country set-up in how to track AI recommendations across countries and regions.
Where does each fall short?
- Rankscale: "all languages" is a broad claim, so test quality in your clients' languages; location handling for raw models needs checking; the credit maths varies with engines chosen.
- AthenaHQ: single region on Starter; multi-market and API features need Enterprise or add-ons; white-label reporting not documented.
- Both: prompts written in English and machine-translated will give misleading results in any tool.
This comparison relies on the vendors' plan, pricing and product pages and on published reviews; we have not tracked a multilingual client in either tool ourselves.
What might this look like in practice?
Consider an illustrative agency, Thessnell Digital, with a travel insurance client selling in the UK, Germany and Spain. It set up the client on Rankscale Growth with one brand dashboard and the three country domains, 30 prompts written by native speakers for each market, and a local competitor list for each. The UK prompts ran daily and the others weekly. The German results showed a comparison site the team had never heard of cited in most answers. The Spanish results showed the client missing entirely, because its Spanish pages were machine-translated and thin. The agency rewrote the Spanish pages with a local writer and pitched the German comparison site.
