Can I Ask Google to Correct a False Gemini Answer About My Business?

You can ask Google to correct a false Gemini answer about your business, but not as a direct edit request. In the Gemini app, you can give thumbs-down feedback with details, or use the "Report legal issue" option for defamatory or otherwise unlawful content. You can also send feedback on AI Overviews and AI Mode, edit your Business Profile, claim your knowledge panel, and use privacy routes if the error concerns personal data. Google does not promise to fix a single answer on request. Feedback helps improve its systems, while corrections stick when the sources Gemini draws on change. So report the error, and at the same time fix the sources: your Business Profile, your website, your knowledge panel and the third-party pages that rank for your name.

Which route fits which problem?

Problem Route What to expect
A wrong fact, such as hours, services, prices or founding date Thumbs down in Gemini with a written explanation; fix the source Used to improve responses; no individual reply
A defamatory or unlawful claim, such as an invented lawsuit or a false fraud accusation "Report legal issue" on the response in Gemini Reviewed against legal grounds, which vary by country
A wrong AI Overview or AI Mode answer in Google Search The feedback option on the answer Considered alongside other feedback
Wrong address, hours, phone or category Edit your Business Profile Usually the fastest fix for local facts
Wrong description, website or details in the knowledge panel Claim the panel as the official representative and suggest changes Reviewed by Google
Personal information about you as an individual Google's personal information removal process; data protection rights where they apply Depends on the content and your location

Gemini's help pages describe the first two routes. For a response that is not accurate, select thumbs down and give feedback. To report a response for legal reasons, open the More menu below it and select "Report legal issue".

How do you write feedback that helps?

Keep it short and specific, so a reviewer can act on it:

  • Quote the false statement exactly.
  • State the correct fact in one sentence.
  • Link to an official source, such as your website, a registry entry or a licence lookup.
  • Say who you are: "I am the owner of [business]."
  • Include the question you asked, since the error may appear only for certain phrasing.

For example: "The response says [business] closed in 2024. It did not; we are open at [address]. Our Business Profile and website show current hours: [link]. I am the owner." Keep a copy of what you submitted and when. How to preserve evidence of a changing answer is covered in how to document a false statement generated by an AI assistant.

Feedback may be reviewed by people. Gemini's privacy information says human review is used to help identify and address problems raised in feedback. Do not include confidential information you would not want reviewed.

Why does reporting alone rarely fix it?

Because Gemini generates each answer from what it can find and what its model has learned, not from a stored fact that someone can edit. Feedback helps Google improve responses in general. But if the pages Gemini draws on still say your business has closed, the next answer may say it too. How Gemini uses Google Search data is covered in whether Gemini uses Google Search data to generate answers.

What does Gemini draw on for facts about businesses?

  • Google Search results for your name and your category, including your own site and third-party pages.
  • Google Maps and Business Profile data for addresses, hours, phone numbers, categories and reviews.
  • Google's knowledge graph, which powers knowledge panels.
  • Its trained model, which may hold older information.

The fixes follow from that list:

  1. Correct your Business Profile, and check for duplicate or outdated profiles.
  2. Put the correct facts on your website in plain text, on your home, about and contact pages.
  3. Claim your knowledge panel and suggest corrections.
  4. Find the third-party pages that rank for your name and carry the error, and request corrections.
  5. Make sure Google can crawl the corrected pages, and request indexing in Search Console.

Should you block Google-Extended to stop Gemini using your site?

No, if your aim is to fix errors. Google's documentation says the Google-Extended control governs whether your content is used for training Gemini models and for grounding answers in the Gemini apps. It does not affect Google Search. Blocking it would stop Gemini grounding its answers in your own pages, which are the pages carrying your corrections. That leaves other sources, including the ones with the error.

How do you confirm the fix worked?

Ask Gemini the same questions over several weeks, in new conversations, and with different phrasing. Check the matching Google Search results and AI Overviews, since they often share sources. Record each result, so you can see whether the error fades or persists. A method for checking what Gemini says about you is covered in how to check what Gemini says about your business.

What might an illustrative case look like?

Consider an illustrative family-run bakery that Gemini described as "permanently closed". Customers stopped coming to its new location. Tracing the answer showed that the bakery's old Business Profile, at its previous address, had been marked permanently closed after the move. The new profile was unverified. The owner verified the new profile, and asked Google to mark the old one as moved rather than closed. They also added a line about the move to the website's home page and gave feedback on the Gemini response with links to both. Within three weeks, Gemini described the bakery as open at its new address.

What do people ask about correcting Gemini?

Will Google reply to my feedback?

Usually not individually. Treat feedback as one step alongside fixing the sources.

Is there a support line for wrong Gemini answers about businesses?

Not for answers themselves. For Business Profile data, use Business Profile support. For legal issues, use the legal reporting option.

How long do corrections take?

Business Profile changes and corrected web pages can show up in answers within days to weeks. Errors held in the model itself can take longer.
