seoClarity vs Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit for Evidence-Based GEO Audits
For an audit where every finding has to be backed by evidence, Semrush's AI Visibility Toolkit is the cheaper source of answer evidence. For $99 a month it tracks 25 prompts daily, shows the full unedited AI response with its sources, and filters for prompts and sources where competitors appear and you do not. It also adds AI checks to Site Audit and exports to CSV. seoClarity costs far more but adds the evidence Semrush's toolkit lacks: accuracy checks and AI bot activity through ArcAI, sold by quote on its own or with the suite, and full-site crawls and log files from its Technical SEO package at $3,200 a month. Neither tool proves why an answer changed. That still needs a method.
What makes a GEO audit evidence-based?
A finding such as "ChatGPT does not recommend you for enterprise payroll" is only useful if someone else can check it. Each finding should carry:
- The answer itself: the full response text, the sources cited, the engine, the country and the date.
- How often it happens: the share of runs or prompts where the pattern appears, not a single screenshot.
- Access evidence: whether AI crawlers can reach and read the pages that should be cited, from crawl data or server logs.
- Accuracy evidence: which claims in the answer are wrong, compared with a stated source of truth.
- Outcome evidence: traffic and conversions on the pages involved, so the finding can be prioritised by value.
The two tools cover different parts of that list.
How do they compare on evidence?
From Semrush's knowledge base and seoClarity's product and pricing pages:
| Evidence | Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit | seoClarity with ArcAI |
|---|---|---|
| Full answer text and sources | Yes, full unedited response in Brand Performance and prompt views | Tracks responses and citations across nine engines; ask how stored answers are exported |
| Frequency | 25 prompts daily; weekly Brand Performance snapshots | Daily or weekly, priced by what you track |
| Gaps against competitors | Missing filters for prompts and for sources cited when competitors appear | Competitor visibility and citation analysis |
| Accuracy | Manual review of answers; Perception and Narrative Drivers reports | Automated checks of AI-stated facts against your own content |
| Crawler access | Site Audit AI checks on up to 100 pages, including pages blocked from AI search | Unlimited-crawl site audits and log file analysis on the Technical SEO package; AI bot activity in ArcAI |
| Traffic and conversions | Not in the toolkit | GA, GA4 or Adobe Analytics imported beside SEO and AI data |
| Export | 10 CSV exports a day; PDF reports | API and MCP server |
| Price | $99/mo per domain | ArcAI by quote (standalone or add-on); crawl and log evidence from $3,200/mo |
What answer evidence does Semrush provide?
The toolkit's strength is showing what AI systems actually say. Prompt Tracking runs your prompts daily across ChatGPT and Google's AI features. Brand Performance takes weekly snapshots and shows the full, unedited AI response with its sources. Its Perception and Narrative Drivers reports show which attributes AI answers associate with your brand and which sources drive that picture.
For gap evidence, the Visibility Overview filters topics and prompts into strong, weak and missing, where missing means competitors appear and you do not. The Sources view has the same Missing filter, listing external domains cited when competitors are mentioned but you are not. That is the raw material for an outreach list, backed by the answers themselves. Semrush says the responses in its prompt database come from real requests rather than APIs. Its reports and limits are covered in more depth in the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit review.
What does seoClarity add?
Three kinds of evidence that Semrush's toolkit does not supply on its own.
Accuracy. ArcAI's accuracy monitoring checks each fact an AI answer states about your brand against your own trusted content, and flags conflicts and outdated details. That turns "the answer seems wrong" into a list of specific claims, each paired with the page that contradicts it.
Access. The Technical SEO package includes site audits with unlimited crawl pages and log file analysis, and ArcAI reports whether AI bots reach your pages. An audit can then show not just that a page is never cited, but that AI crawlers have not requested it in months, or that it returns errors to them.
Outcome. seoClarity imports Google Analytics, GA4 or Adobe Analytics data beside its SEO and AI data. Findings can be ranked by the traffic and revenue of the pages involved, rather than by how alarming they look. More is in the seoClarity review.
Which evidence can neither tool give you?
Cause. Both tools show what changed, and seoClarity can show more of the surrounding conditions, but neither can prove that your page update caused a citation gain. AI answers also move for reasons unrelated to any one brand. seoClarity's own research found ChatGPT citation volumes in its sample falling by more than 85% between February and April 2026 after platform changes, then recovering. An audit that compared April with February without that context would have reported a collapse that was not the brand's doing.
To make causal claims defensible, add:
- Repeated runs of each key prompt over at least two weeks, so single answers are not treated as patterns.
- A control set of prompts or pages you did not change.
- A change log with dates for every page edit, crawler rule change and outreach placement.
- Competitor movement, to separate platform-wide shifts from your own results.
How to present this is covered in how to structure a GEO visibility report with competitors, evidence, gaps and next steps.
How should each finding be written?
Whichever tool supplies the data, write each finding in the same shape, so that it can be checked and acted on:
- Finding: one sentence, such as "AI Mode names two competitors, not us, for mid-size payroll software in the UK."
- Evidence: the prompts, engine, country, dates, and a copy of two or three representative answers with their sources.
- Frequency: how many of the tracked runs showed it, such as 11 of 14 daily runs.
- Likely cause: what the evidence suggests, such as the cited comparison pages not listing you, or your pricing page not being crawled.
- Fix and test: the change, the owner, and the date you will recheck, with the control prompts to compare against.
Turning findings into a ranked list is covered in how to turn an AI visibility audit into a prioritised to-do list.
Which should you use?
- Semrush's toolkit for audits of a single brand or a small set of clients, where answer evidence and competitor gaps are the core of the work, and the budget is modest. Pair it with a crawler and server logs for access evidence.
- seoClarity for enterprises that need accuracy checks at scale, log-based access evidence and revenue context in one platform, and already have the budget for an enterprise SEO suite.
- Both, occasionally: an agency auditing an enterprise client that runs seoClarity can use a lighter tracker to spot-check answers independently.
Where does each fall short?
- Semrush toolkit: 25 prompts on the base plan; Site Audit's AI checks cover up to 100 pages; no automated fact-checking; no analytics join inside the toolkit.
- seoClarity: high entry price; ArcAI quoted separately; a steep learning curve for smaller teams.
- Both: neither proves cause without a method.
This comparison comes from each vendor's documentation and pricing pages; we have not audited a site with either tool ourselves.
What might this look like in practice?
Consider an illustrative UK payroll software company, Ulvoway. Its first audit used Semrush's toolkit: 25 buyer prompts tracked daily for two weeks showed it missing from 9 prompts where two competitors appeared, and the Sources view listed four comparison sites cited in those answers that did not mention Ulvoway. A year later, as an enterprise customer on seoClarity, it added ArcAI. Accuracy checks flagged that AI answers quoted a pricing tier it had retired, traced to an old partner page. Log data showed AI crawlers had not requested its new pricing page since launch, because it was missing from the sitemap.
What do people ask about seoClarity and Semrush for GEO audits?
Does Semrush show the full AI answer?
Yes. Brand Performance shows the full, unedited AI response with its sources.
Can seoClarity detect wrong facts in AI answers?
Yes. ArcAI's accuracy monitoring checks facts stated in AI answers against your own content and flags conflicts.
Which is cheaper?
Semrush's toolkit, at $99 a month per domain, against ArcAI by quote and seoClarity's crawl and log packages from $3,200 a month.
Can either tool prove that a fix worked?
Not on its own. Use repeated runs, a control set and a dated change log.
