Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit Review: AI Visibility and Citation Tracking Features
Semrush's AI Visibility Toolkit costs $99 a month per domain. It adds AI brand reports, competitor and prompt research, 25 tracked prompts and an AI readiness check in Site Audit to a Semrush account. It is good value if you already work in Semrush and want AI data beside your SEO data. It is expensive for a single small brand that only needs a handful of prompts tracked. Its brand reports are built from Semrush's own database of common queries, run through assistants such as ChatGPT and Google's AI Mode. Prompt tracking covers the questions you add yourself. There is no free trial of the standalone toolkit. The Semrush One bundles raise the prompt limits and include Semrush's SEO tools.
What does the toolkit include?
Semrush's knowledge base describes these reports:
- Visibility Overview: how a domain appears in AI answers, updated daily on a rolling basis.
- Competitor Research: how AI platforms position competitors compared with your brand, including prompts and topics where others are cited and you are not.
- Prompt Research: topics and prompts to target, with 1,000 daily queries.
- Brand Performance: share of voice, sentiment and the narratives driving your reputation, for one domain, updated weekly.
- Prompt Tracking: daily tracking of 25 prompts you choose, in 220+ countries and territories.
- AI Search checks in Site Audit for up to 100 pages.
Semrush's pricing page lists mentions from ChatGPT, Google AI, Gemini and Perplexity. The base plan also allows 300 daily queries in the AI analysis reports and 10 CSV exports a day.
Semrush AI Toolkit pricing: how much does AI visibility tracking cost?
As listed by Semrush:
| Option | Price | AI prompts tracked daily | Also includes |
|---|---|---|---|
| AI Visibility Toolkit | $99/mo per domain | 25 | AI reports for any domain; 1 Brand Performance domain |
| Extra Brand Performance domain | $99/mo each | — | Another domain or location |
| Extra prompts | $60/mo per 50 | +50 | — |
| Semrush One Starter | $199/mo ($165.17 billed annually) | 50 | SEO tools for 5 websites, 500 tracked keywords |
| Semrush One Pro+ | $299/mo ($248.17 billed annually) | 100 | 15 websites, 1,500 keywords, historical data |
| Semrush One Advanced | $549/mo ($455.67 billed annually) | 200 | 40 websites, 5,000 keywords, API data |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | Multi-brand tracking, custom limits |
A worked example shows how the options compare. A single brand that wants 100 tracked prompts can buy the toolkit plus two prompt packs: $99 + $60 + $60 = $219 a month for 125 prompts. Semrush One Pro+ costs $299 a month for 100 prompts, but includes the SEO toolkit. If you would pay for Semrush's SEO tools anyway, the bundle is cheaper than buying both separately. If you would not, the toolkit and add-ons cost less.
Is Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit included in an existing Semrush subscription?
No. The classic SEO Toolkit plans do not include it. You either buy the AI Visibility Toolkit as a separate subscription or move to a Semrush One plan, which bundles both toolkits. Semrush says the toolkit is not automatically available to every user in a corporate account. Each additional user needs another $99 licence. If you add it to an annual subscription, Semrush charges a one-time prorated amount for the rest of your term rather than a monthly fee. Adding a Brand Performance domain increases the domains you can analyse, not the number of users.
Is Semrush AI Visibility data based on real buyer prompts or a fixed database?
Both, in different reports. The Brand Performance and research reports come from Semrush's own database. Its knowledge base says Brand Performance gathers "a vast collection of common queries" and runs them through LLMs such as ChatGPT and Google's AI Mode. Those prompts come from Semrush's database of about 300 million prompts, which Semrush says is sourced from real AI search clickstream data collected with consent, plus its Google keyword data for AI Overviews. So they are real people's questions, but aggregated across the market, not your customers' exact words. Prompt Tracking is the part based on your prompts. You enter the questions you care about, and Semrush checks them daily.
The difference matters. Database reports are good for spotting category-wide patterns and competitors you had not considered. Tracked prompts are what you should report on, because you choose them from sales calls, support tickets and search queries. With 25 prompts in the base plan, choose them carefully.
Is Semrush accurate for tracking brand visibility across LLMs?
It measures what it is designed to measure, with the limits every tracking tool shares. Semrush publishes no independent accuracy audit, so treat its numbers as a consistent sample, not ground truth:
- Answers vary. Assistants give different answers to the same question on different runs. A daily check per prompt produces a trend, not an exact share of voice for any given day.
- Clean sessions differ from real users. Tools query without the memory, history and personalisation that real users' accounts carry.
- Location and language change answers. Set the country for prompt tracking to match your market.
- Database prompts are generic. A category-level share of voice may not reflect the questions your buyers ask.
A simple validation helps. Pick ten tracked prompts, run each three times yourself in the same assistants and country, and compare what you see with what the tool records. If the brands named and the sources cited broadly match, you can trust the trend. How tools of this kind differ in method is covered in how SE Ranking and Profound measure mentions and citations.
Is Semrush AI Toolkit worth the cost for one domain or an entry-level user?
Only if you will use more than prompt tracking. At $99 a month for 25 prompts, the toolkit costs about $3.96 per tracked prompt, falling to $1.20 for each prompt added through the $60 packs. For a single small business, much of the value lies in the research reports, such as competitor research, prompt research and the AI readiness audit. If you will not use them, cheaper dedicated trackers exist, some from under $30 a month. Free first-party data is also available in Google Search Console's generative AI report and Bing Webmaster Tools' AI Performance report.
Because the standalone toolkit has no free trial, test before you commit. Semrush offers trials of Semrush One plans, and its free tools include an AI visibility checker. A careful manual audit also shows whether you need daily tracking at all, as covered in how to get a free GEO or AEO visibility audit. Are Semrush and Ahrefs AI tracking features worth their price?
They are worth it mainly for teams already paying for one of them, where AI data beside SEO data saves time. They price differently, so compare on your own needs:
| Semrush | Ahrefs | |
|---|---|---|
| Entry point | AI Visibility Toolkit, $99/mo per domain | Brand Radar AI from $199/mo |
| Own prompts | 25 in the toolkit; 50–200 in Semrush One | 5–20 included in Lite to Advanced plans; custom prompt packages from $50/mo |
| How limits are counted | Prompts tracked daily | Checks: one prompt on one platform on one day |
| Database | Semrush's database of common queries | Ahrefs says 475M+ prompts in its index |
| Base SEO plan | Semrush One from $199/mo | Lite $129/mo to Enterprise $1,499/mo |
Ahrefs' custom prompt packages start with 80 prompts daily on one platform for $50 a month. Its Growth package covers 100 prompts daily on two platforms for $100 a month. Per prompt-platform, that is cheaper than Semrush's base toolkit. But Semrush's toolkit includes research reports and a Brand Performance domain, so the comparison depends on which reports you use. Neither is good value if you track a few prompts once and never act on the results.
Is Semrush AEO worth using after Adobe acquired it?
Adobe completed its acquisition of Semrush on 28 April 2026. Semrush's customer FAQ says there are no immediate changes to features, interface, access, support or billing. Adobe has since launched Adobe Brand Visibility, the former LLM Optimizer, which builds Semrush's AI prompt data into an enterprise product that can connect to Adobe Experience Manager. For enterprise teams on Adobe's stack, that could make the data more useful. For small businesses, the risk is that the roadmap and pricing tilt towards enterprise over time. Nothing announced so far changes the toolkit. Monthly billing, rather than an annual commitment, limits your exposure if it does change.
Who should buy it?
- Good fit: teams and agencies already using Semrush, who want AI visibility, competitor research and SEO data in one place.
- Reasonable fit: marketers who will use the research reports, not only prompt tracking.
- Poor fit: single small brands that only need a few prompts tracked, and teams that need many prompts across many platforms at the lowest cost per check.
What do people ask about the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit?
Does it track Claude or Copilot?
Semrush's pricing page lists ChatGPT, Google AI, Gemini and Perplexity. Check the current list before buying if other assistants matter to you.
Can I track competitors' prompts?
Yes. Competitor Research shows where competitors are cited, and tracked prompts show every brand named in each answer.
Does it tell me what to fix?
Partly. Brand Performance offers AI-generated recommendations, and the Site Audit flags AI readiness issues. Deciding which fixes matter still needs your judgement.
Can I cancel the toolkit separately?
It is sold as its own subscription, so it can be managed apart from an SEO plan. Check your billing terms, especially on annual plans.
