Does Semrush One Combine Traditional SEO and AI Visibility Tracking?
Yes, Semrush One combines traditional SEO and AI visibility tracking. It bundles Semrush's SEO Toolkit and AI Visibility Toolkit in one subscription, in Starter, Pro+ and Advanced plans from $199 a month. Position Tracking then shows Google rankings, AI Overview citations and brand mentions in ChatGPT and AI Mode in one dashboard, and Domain Overview gives a combined snapshot. The two datasets still measure different things, though. Keywords and prompts are tracked separately, and Position Tracking records an AI Overview citation as position one whatever your organic rank is. Semrush One is good value if you need both SEO tools and AI tracking. It is more than a freelancer needs for AI tracking alone.
What does Semrush One include?
Semrush's knowledge base describes Semrush One as the SEO and AI Visibility toolkits in a single subscription, covering visibility on search engines and AI chat platforms. It measures AI visibility across Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini. As listed:
| Plan | Monthly price | Billed annually | SEO limits | AI prompts tracked daily |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $199 | $165.17/mo | 5 websites, 500 keywords | 50 |
| Pro+ | $299 | $248.17/mo | 15 websites, 1,500 keywords, historical data | 100 |
| Advanced | $549 | $455.67/mo | 40 websites, 5,000 keywords, API data | 200 |
Each plan includes one domain for AI Brand Performance reports. Further domains cost $99 a month each. If you already have a Semrush account, Semrush says upgrading moves your existing projects and data into the unified interface automatically. Full detail on the standalone AI toolkit is in the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit review.
What is actually combined?
- Position Tracking. One dashboard for a custom set of keywords and prompts: your Google rankings, your appearances in AI Overviews, and mentions on platforms such as ChatGPT and AI Mode. Google and AI Overview tracking works on any Semrush plan, including free. Tracking on AI platforms needs Semrush One or the AI Visibility Toolkit.
- Domain Overview. A snapshot of any domain's visibility in traditional search and on AI platforms, available in a limited form even with a free account.
- Organic Research. Shows the keywords for which a domain is cited in AI Overviews, and which pages are cited, beside its organic rankings.
- Reporting. One subscription and one reporting experience across both toolkits.
The practical gain is seeing, for one topic, whether you rank in Google, whether you are cited in the AI Overview above the results, and whether ChatGPT and AI Mode mention you, in one place and one export.
What is not combined?
- Keywords and prompts are different units. A keyword such as "payroll software small business" and a prompt such as "What's the best payroll software for a 10-person company?" are tracked as separate items. You map them to each other yourself, usually with tags.
- AI Overview citations count as position one. Semrush's documentation says that when your domain is cited in an AI Overview, Position Tracking records it as a number one ranking, regardless of where your page ranks organically. That is a reasonable convention, but it can lift your average position and visibility figures. Filter AI Overviews separately when you report organic rankings.
- Brand Performance data comes from Semrush's prompt database, not from your tracked prompts. It is useful for category-wide share of voice, but it is not the same sample as your Position Tracking prompts.
- Update rhythms differ. Position Tracking and Prompt Tracking update daily, while Brand Performance reports update weekly.
Is Semrush One worth it for freelancers who only need AI visibility tracking?
Usually not. If you only need AI tracking, you pay for an SEO toolkit you will not use. Compare the options for one client or one site:
- The AI Visibility Toolkit alone costs $99 a month per domain for 25 prompts, with 50 more for $60 a month.
- Semrush One Starter costs $199 a month for 50 prompts plus the SEO tools.
- Dedicated AI trackers start lower. AIclicks, for example, starts at $59 a month for 30 prompts, and Otterly at $29 for fewer, as covered in Otterly AI vs Semrush for AI visibility tracking.
The calculation flips if you need SEO tools too. Semrush's SEO-only plan costs $139 a month. Adding the AI toolkit at $99 brings that to $238, which is $39 more than Semrush One Starter, and Starter has twice the toolkit's prompts. On annual billing the gap is wider, since Starter falls to $165.17 a month. So for a freelancer who already relies on Semrush for keyword research, rank tracking and audits, the bundle is the cheaper way to add AI tracking. For one who only tracks AI answers, it is overkill.
Who benefits most from the combined view?
- SEO teams adding AI visibility to existing reporting, who want one set of projects and exports.
- Agencies reporting SEO and AI results together, especially on Pro+ and Advanced with more websites and prompts.
- Content teams deciding whether to update a page, who can see its organic rank, its AI Overview citations and AI mentions for the same topic together.
It is less useful for teams whose AI questions are mostly conversational and do not map to keywords, or who need many runs per prompt for statistical confidence. Local businesses should also check how precisely a tracker handles location, a limit covered in whether AI visibility trackers are precise enough for local geotargeting.
How should you set up a combined project?
- Group keywords by topic, then write one or two prompts per topic in customers' natural phrasing.
- Tag keywords and prompts with the same topic labels, so reports can be filtered by topic across both.
- Track the same location for keywords and prompts.
- Report organic rankings with AI Overviews filtered out, and report AI Overview citations separately, to avoid the position-one effect.
- Pick your 50 prompts carefully on Starter. Choose high-value commercial questions over generic ones.
- Review monthly by topic: rank, AI Overview citation, AI mentions and the sources cited. Then decide whether the fix is a page update, a new page or work on third-party sources.
How far can you trust the combined numbers?
The SEO half rests on Semrush's long-running rank tracking, which checks search results for your keywords in a set location each day. The AI half works differently. Each tracked prompt is sent to each assistant and the answer is recorded, once a day. Assistants give different answers to the same question on different runs, and tools query in clean sessions without the memory and personalisation real users carry. So a daily AI mention rate is a trend line, not a precise measurement. Check it now and then by running a handful of prompts yourself and comparing what you see with what Semrush recorded. If the brands named and the sources cited broadly match, the trend is worth reporting.
How does it compare with alternatives?
Semrush One's advantage is breadth in one place: keyword research, rank tracking, audits, backlinks and AI tracking under one login. Dedicated AI platforms often offer more assistants, more prompts for the money, or deeper source analysis, but no SEO toolkit. Other comparisons are covered in Semrush vs Profound for AI visibility tracking and Semrush vs AthenaHQ and BrightEdge for broader AI visibility tracking.
