Athena HQ Review: An AI Visibility Tracking Tool to Evaluate

AthenaHQ tracks brand visibility across eleven AI models and adds content and crawler-access actions on top. Its free Essential plan gives 300 credits on five models. Its Starter plan, which many reviews call Self-Serve, costs $295 a month for 3,600 credits, where one credit is one AI response, and covers a single region. Enterprise is priced by contract and adds multiple regions, claim review and BI dashboards. AthenaHQ does not publish a $50,000 minimum. That figure appears in some tool lists, but it belongs to an agency's project minimum. The tool is worth evaluating if you want broad model coverage and built-in actions, but budget carefully, because credits run out faster than they seem.

What does AthenaHQ Self-Serve cost, and what is included?

AthenaHQ's plans page, lists three plans. The self-serve paid plan is called Starter:

Essential Starter (Self-Serve) Enterprise
Price Free, with $25 of credit $295/mo, or 17% off billed annually Custom
Credits a month 300 3,600 Negotiated
Models ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Overviews, Gemini, Copilot Eleven: adds AI Mode, Claude, Grok, DeepSeek, Meta AI and Mistral Starter models, plus others on request
Regions Not listed Single Multiple regions and languages
Extras Prompt and response analysis, sources, competitor insights, content recommendations GA4 and Search Console, Shopify and Webflow, CSV export, content optimisation agent, smart robots.txt and llms.txt Claim review, discrepancy detection, citation engine, persona targeting, SSO, BI dashboards, white-glove setup
API Not listed Paid add-on Included

Topics are unlimited on every plan, so the real limit is credits. Extra credits can be bought on Starter at a price you have to request.

Some round-ups quote Starter at $95 a month on annual billing. The plans page shows a 17% annual discount instead, which works out at about $245 a month. Check the current offer before relying on either figure.

How far do 3,600 credits go?

One credit buys one AI response, so every prompt, on every model, at every refresh, costs a credit. The same 3,600 credits stretch very differently:

Set-up Responses a month
30 prompts × 4 models × daily 3,600
120 prompts × 1 model × daily 3,600
12 prompts × all 11 models × daily About 3,960, over the limit
100 prompts × 8 models × weekly About 3,440
200 prompts × 4 models × weekly About 3,440

The lesson is that daily tracking across all eleven models is only possible for a handful of prompts. Most Starter users will track the models their buyers actually use, and refresh weekly.

At $295, each response costs about 8.2 cents. That is well above trackers that sell prompts per day. A tracker with 50 prompts on three models, checked daily, produces 4,500 responses a month, and several sell that for under $100. AthenaHQ's price pays for model breadth and the action features, not for volume.

What does it do beyond tracking?

  • Content actions: a content optimisation agent, recommendations, and on-page and off-page actions to improve visibility.
  • Crawler access: smart robots.txt and llms.txt management, to control which AI crawlers can reach your site.
  • Traffic connection: GA4 and Search Console integration, to set AI visibility beside site traffic.
  • Commerce: Shopify and Webflow integrations.
  • Sentiment: real-time brand sentiment, and prompt variations with conversation context.

On Enterprise, claim review and discrepancy detection check what assistants say about you against a knowledge base of approved facts. That is the feature that matters most to regulated and multi-product brands.

Athena AI visibility services review: what global brands should know about the $50,000 minimum

Three things are worth separating.

AthenaHQ publishes no minimum. Its Enterprise plan is custom, and credit allocation is negotiated in the contract. Ask for any quote in writing, with the credit allocation and refresh schedule spelled out.

The $50,000 figure comes from elsewhere. In at least one widely shared list of GEO platforms, a $50,000+ minimum project size is attached to a full-service agency, not to AthenaHQ. Agencies do the optimisation work for you. AthenaHQ sells software, with setup, enablement and a certified GEO/SEO specialist on Enterprise.

Global brands will need Enterprise anyway. Starter covers a single region. Tracking several markets and languages needs Enterprise, and credits scale with every market. For example:

  • 5 markets × 100 prompts × 5 models × weekly ≈ 10,750 responses a month.
  • The same set-up, daily, is 75,000 responses a month.

That is why a global contract can reach tens of thousands of dollars a year. What drives the price is the number of markets, prompts, models and refreshes, plus seats, SSO and BI connections. Before a quote, work out your own response count, and decide which markets need daily data and which weekly.

What are the limits?

  • Credit cost: the price per response is high, so frequency and model choices need planning.
  • Single region on Starter: international tracking means Enterprise.
  • Add-on pricing unpublished: extra credits and API access on Starter are priced on request.
  • Method details: ask how answers are collected for each model, app or API, and how many runs each prompt gets.

How does it compare?

Who is it for?

  • Good fit: mid-sized brands that want many models and built-in actions, and enterprises that need claim review, multiple regions and BI connections.
  • Reasonable fit: agencies, through its agency programme, for clients that value model breadth.
  • Poor fit: teams that need daily tracking of hundreds of prompts on a small budget.

How should you evaluate it?

  1. Start on Essential with 300 free credits and five models.
  2. Spend credits deliberately: ten prompts on three models for a week uses about 210.
  3. Read full answers and check the sources and sentiment against them.
  4. Model your real response count for Starter or Enterprise, using the tables above.
  5. Ask for add-on prices for credits and API access before you commit.

What might a global evaluation look like?

Consider an illustrative outdoor-gear brand selling in six countries. It tested Essential with 20 prompts in English, then asked for an Enterprise quote. Its first plan, 150 prompts on six models daily in all six markets, came to about 162,000 responses a month. The team cut that to daily tracking on three models in its two largest markets, and weekly tracking on the same three models elsewhere. The count fell to about 35,000, and the quote fell with it. It also asked for claim review, because assistants were quoting an outdated warranty.
