Knowatoa Review: Free Tier, Pricing, and Cross-Platform Prompt Tracking

Knowatoa no longer lists a free plan. Its pricing page shows two paid plans, both with a free trial. Starter costs $59 a month and covers ChatGPT, AI Overviews and AI Mode. Growth costs $199 and covers seven AI services, adding Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Meta AI. Older directory listings describe a free tier with 10 tracked questions, but that belongs to an earlier pricing structure. Every plan includes AI agents that research gaps and draft content for your approval. The question limit per plan is not published, which is the main thing to confirm during the trial. Knowatoa suits small marketing teams that want tracking and content help in one tool.

Is there still a free tier?

Not as a permanent plan. What you can get free today:

  • A free trial on both Starter and Growth, started from the pricing page.
  • A quick visibility check on Knowatoa's homepage: enter your site to see where it stands across several AI services.

Some directories still describe a free tier with unlimited sites, 10 questions and CSV export, alongside paid plans from $99 to $749. Those figures do not match Knowatoa's current pricing page, so treat them as out of date. If you need a free option for ongoing tracking, other tools are compared in the Amplitude free AI visibility tool review.

Annual pricing is mentioned but not listed. Knowatoa describes Starter as suited to tracking a focused set of core questions, and Growth to teams reporting AI search results to leadership every month.

How many questions do you get?

Knowatoa's FAQ answers "I need more questions than what's shown here" and says all sites share the same question limit, but no number appears on the page. Third-party reviews put Starter at about 30 questions. Until you confirm the figure, you cannot compare its price fairly. If Starter does include 30 questions, checked daily on three services, that is about 2,700 answers a month, or roughly 2.2 cents each. Ask in the trial:

  1. How many questions each plan includes.
  2. Whether each question counts once across services, or once per service.
  3. How often answers refresh for each service.
  4. What happens at the limit: a hard stop, or overage charges.

How does cross-platform tracking work?

Knowatoa generates the questions buyers are most likely to ask, helps you choose which to track, and then pulls the answers each AI service gives. For every question it shows which competitors are cited, which sources shape the answer, and where you are missing. Its FAQ says it analyses data daily, because answers change as models update. Results are summarised in a weekly digest of what changed and what to publish next.

A few practical details:

  • Visibility by service. Results are split by AI service, so you can see, for example, strong ChatGPT visibility alongside weak Claude visibility.
  • Brand terms. You can add product names, executives and events to a brand, and they are all counted as that brand.
  • Unlimited sites. You can track any number of sites on one account, drawing on one shared pool of questions.
  • Languages and locations. Questions can be tracked in several languages and markets.

Why compare services at all?

Because they cite different sources. The same question often produces a different shortlist in ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI features, built from different pages. A brand that looks strong in one service can be absent in another. Cross-platform tracking shows where to focus: fix the service your buyers use most, and study the sources it prefers. On Starter, you only see ChatGPT and Google's AI features, which is enough for many consumer and local businesses. B2B and technical audiences often use Claude and Perplexity as well, which means Growth.

What do the AI agents do?

Knowatoa turns each gap into a brief assigned to an AI agent. Its homepage shows agents that draft articles, research content gaps to find new questions, or run checks on a schedule, with approval steps before anything is published. That shortens the path from "we are missing" to "we published something". Review every draft for accuracy, originality and claims before it goes live, because drafts built from AI answers can repeat the same errors the answers contain.

What are the limits?

  • Unpublished question limits, the main unit of value in this category.
  • Three services on Starter. Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Meta AI need Growth.
  • No reporting stack on Starter, so API and Looker Studio reporting need Growth.
  • Generated questions. Knowatoa says nobody has data on what buyers type into ChatGPT, so its questions are modelled. Add your own buyer questions from sales calls and support tickets.

Is it good value?

It depends on what you would otherwise pay for. On tracking alone, Knowatoa is not the cheapest. Otterly starts at $29 a month for 15 prompts on four engines, Waikay offers 120 prompts for $69.95, and SE Visible tracks 200 prompts on five engines for $99. Against those, Starter's three services and unpublished question count look thin.

The value case rests on the agents. If your team would otherwise pay a freelancer to research gaps and draft articles, even one usable draft a month can cover the $59. If your team already has writers, or only needs numbers for a report, a cheaper tracker with more prompts is the better buy. For Growth, the comparison is with trackers that cover Claude and Perplexity plus reporting connectors, which often cost close to $200 a month or more.

How does it compare?

Knowatoa sits among low-cost trackers, but with content agents included. For side-by-side comparisons, see Waikay vs Otterly vs Knowatoa, the Promptwatch review and AthenaHQ versus Goodie for agency prompt tracking.

What might a trial look like?

Consider an illustrative analytics start-up, Sparrowdata, trialling Growth for a week. It accepted 15 of Knowatoa's suggested questions and added 10 from its sales team. By day three, results showed it cited in about half of ChatGPT answers but almost none from Claude or Perplexity, where two developer documentation sites dominated. An agent drafted an integration guide for one missing question, which the team rewrote in its own voice before publishing. Before paying, the team asked for the question limit in writing. It chose Starter, because its customers mostly used ChatGPT and Google.
