Similarweb Review: Automating AI Visibility Tracking
Similarweb's AI Search Intelligence costs $99 a month for 150 tracked prompts, with answers refreshed daily. It includes sentiment, citation analysis, and estimated AI referral traffic for your site and your competitors. Per prompt, that makes it one of the cheapest trackers available. What sets it apart is that it automates from real usage data. Prompts come from actual chatbot activity in your topics rather than a list you invent. Its AI traffic estimates cover competitors, not just you. The limits matter too: one user, three months of history on the entry plan, and traffic figures that are estimates from Similarweb's data rather than your own analytics. It suits researchers and small teams that want a wide, low-cost view.
Similarweb GEO suite review: is it a cheaper option at $99?
Yes, on price per prompt. As listed on Similarweb's AI search pages:
| Plan | Price | Users | History | AI features |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AEO Intelligence | $99/mo | 1 | 3 months | AI Brand Visibility with 150 tracked prompts, sentiment, citations, AI traffic |
| AEO, SEO and Competitive Intel | $333/mo | 1 | 6 months | The same AI features, plus SEO tools and competitive traffic intelligence |
| AEO, SEO, Ads and Competitive Intel | $542/mo | 1 | 6 months | Adds ad intelligence |
Those prices reflect annual billing; one third-party review puts the entry plan at $129 billed monthly. There is a free trial.
At $99 for 150 prompts, the entry plan works out at about 66 cents per prompt per month. By comparison, Semrush's AI Visibility Toolkit is about $3.96 per prompt ($99 for 25), Peec AI about $1.90 ($95 for 50) and Otterly about $1.93 ($29 for 15). Price per prompt is not everything, because engines, run frequency and features differ, but Similarweb's entry plan is clearly at the low end.
What does the AI Brand Visibility module include?
Four parts, per Similarweb's FAQ:
- Brand overview: your visibility against competitors across the topics you track, as a visibility score.
- Prompt tracking: real user prompts and the latest AI responses, with daily refresh. For each prompt you see whether you were mentioned, which competitors appeared and in what order, the sentiment, and the domains cited.
- Citation analysis: the domains that most influence AI answers in your category, down to exact links.
- Sentiment analysis: positive, neutral and negative mentions by topic, with a sentiment score to compare against competitors.
Similarweb's own examples show visibility broken down by ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Mode and Perplexity. Check which engines your plan covers during the trial; one competitor's review claims full model coverage needs higher tiers.
How does it automate prompt selection?
Most trackers ask you to write your prompt list, which tends to overweight branded questions and your own vocabulary. Similarweb says its prompt data is aggregated and normalised from actual AI chatbot searches, then organised by topic. You choose topics, and it surfaces the questions people really ask within them. That removes the biggest source of bias in AI tracking, the prompt list itself.
Two cautions apply. Similarweb's data comes from its panels and data partners, so coverage is better in large markets and popular categories than in niche ones. And the prompts are samples of real usage, not complete counts. Review the list for your topics, and add any critical questions it misses. How to build a manual list is covered in how to track AI visibility by testing prompts manually.
What does the AI Traffic module show?
AI Traffic estimates visits from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and AI Mode to your site and to competitors' sites over time, and lists competitor landing pages that receive AI traffic. That last part is unusual: most trackers only see your own analytics. Seeing which competitor pages attract AI visits shows which content formats win clicks from assistants.
The figures are Similarweb estimates, built from its data rather than your tracking code, so they will not match GA4. Use them for comparisons and trends across sites, and your own analytics for your exact numbers. The difference between tracking and traffic tools is covered in Profound vs Similarweb.
How should you read its visibility score?
Similarweb's visibility score shows how often your brand is mentioned across the tracked prompts in a topic. Because the prompts come from real usage rather than your own list, the score is harder to inflate with branded questions, which is a strength. Two habits keep it useful. First, compare it with competitors in the same topic rather than across topics, since some topics have many more brands competing for each answer. Second, expect movement from run to run: Similarweb itself cites research finding less than a one-in-100 chance that the same list of brands appears in two runs of the same question. Look at trends over several weeks, and read the answers behind any sudden change before reporting it.
Where does it fall short?
- One user on every self-serve plan, which is awkward for teams.
- Short history on the $99 plan: three months limits year-on-year comparisons.
- Estimated data. Prompts and traffic come from Similarweb's panels and models, not from your site or a full log of AI usage.
- Less action guidance than tools built around recommendations, though Similarweb offers an AI SEO agent that builds a strategy from its data.
- Engine coverage by plan needs checking.
We have not tested Similarweb's AI module ourselves; this review is based on its published pages.
Who is it for?
- Good fit: analysts, researchers and small teams that want broad, low-cost AI visibility data and competitor traffic context; teams already using Similarweb.
- Reasonable fit: SEO managers who choose the $333 plan to get AI, SEO and competitive data in one place.
- Poor fit: teams that need many users, long history, or detailed recommendations for each prompt.
Other trackers at a similar price are compared in GEO tool pricing: Otterly, Minddex and Profound and the Search Atlas and OTTO review.
How should you trial it?
- Pick three topics that matter to your business, and review the real prompts Similarweb surfaces for each.
- Compare with your own list. Which important questions are missing, and which surprising ones appear?
- Open ten answers and check them against what you see in the same assistant.
- Compare AI Traffic estimates for your site with GA4 to see how closely trends match.
- Check engine coverage and history limits against your reporting needs.
What might this look like in practice?
Consider an illustrative online language school, Quorholt Academy. Its team had tracked 30 hand-written prompts in another tool. Similarweb's topic data showed that most real questions in its category were about exam preparation and price, which its list barely covered. AI Traffic estimates showed a competitor's free placement test page drawing steady visits from ChatGPT. Quorholt built its own placement test page and rewrote its pricing page, then tracked the new prompts daily. It kept Similarweb's $99 plan for research and its other tool for detailed per-prompt tracking.
